for March 19, 2011 show in Lebanon, Mo.
and Oct. 29-30, 2011 in Springfield, Mo.
On January 11, the Golden Eagles met at the Golden Corral
on Hwy 13 North.
Attending were Jim Guy, Jim Griffin, Jim Tower, Shirley and
Bob Nicholson, Harry Waterson and Nancy Redman for a total of 7.
We braved the cold and snow and had a wonderful time of sharing.
Jim Guy donated an elongated penny commemorating the
USS Arizona Memorial 70th anniversary to Remember Pearl Harbor.
A 1971-S unc. Ike silver dollar was also in the drawing that Harry
received.
Harry intrigued us with four lapel pins from 1933-36 to
recognize Studebaker. The 5 and 10 years were bronze, 15 years
was sterling, and 20 year pin was gold. There is more information
about this in the newsletter.
We will get together again on Feb. 8 at 1:30 at Golden Corral.
We start every meeting with a social hour at 6:00 p.m.
to 6:30 p.m. At 6:30 p.m. our auction begins. Then at 7:15
we start our membership meeting that consists of: Door Prize
Drawings (Junior and Adult), General Business, Short Program,
and Live Auction (must be a member to enter items in the

A NOTE FROM NANCY
We are off to a new year with lots of new things happening. Jim Guy did an outstanding job on the YN auction in
January. We are anxiously awaiting the digital photography presentation by Ed and Shaylei in February.
Our election is April, and nominations need to be in by the February meeting.
Dues must be paid in order to vote in the election.
The Lebanon Coin Show is March 19, and will be here before you know. We will need help to set up, clean up, and
registration. Be ready to help (Y)OUR club!! This would be a good chance for someone to show off a collection they
have put together in a display. This will be discussed at the February meeting. We will also discuss the club picnic in
February, so be thinking of possible dates that are not already taken, for our picnic. In the near future we will have an
article from Antique Road Show Journal that Harry Waterson authored. Be watching.
We are an awesome club with awesome people!!

Harry Waterson Presentation
Those attending the Golden Eagles luncheon in
January were amazed by Harry’s contributions.
Here is some extra information he shared.
The plaque with the ladies all
around is 18 inches and made of
plaster. The 20 yr service lapel pin
is 10K gold and is 5/8th of an inch
in diameter. This Lapel Pin was only
used by Studebaker from
1933 to 1937. The image of
John Studebaker was sculpted in
1923 by Julio Kilenyi.

Gettysburg National Military Park Quarter
Obverse: George Washington's
profile is surrounded by the inscriptions
"United States of America," "Liberty,"
"In God We Trust," a mint mark, and
"Quarter Dollar."
Let's start the new year with a new coin: the Gettysburg National Military Park quarter! The park commemorates
the Battle of Gettysburg, a turning point in the American Civil War.
The park has many monuments to military units, most of which were erected by soldiers who fought in the Battle
of Gettysburg. The monument shown honors the 72nd Pennsylvania Infantry. So what makes this monument
such a good candidate for the main image in the quarter's design?
The 72nd Pennsylvania Infantry was a key player in the Battle of Gettysburg, which took place over the course of
the first 3 days of July 1863. On the third day, some of the Union troops were lined up behind a low stone wall
along Cemetery Ridge. The wall was mostly straight, but had two 90-degree bends near the middle of the
wall. One of those bends has become known as "the Angle."
At one point, the Confederate forces of "Pickett's Charge" were able to break through the Union line at the Angle
and climb over the wall. That might have become a Confederate victory, if not for the fact that there were enough
Union soldiers nearby to close the gap and surround the invaders.
The other Confederate forces, fighting on three sides, were forced to retreat. The result was a victory for the
Union army that helped to turn the tide of Confederate advance up to that time.
A small area of dense growth near the Angle is now called the "copse of trees." Around and within the copse,
fierce hand-to-hand combat took place, symbolized by the soldier on the monument swinging his rifle.
The copse of trees and the Angle in the stone wall are still there, and the monument to the 72nd Pennsylvania
Infantry stands nearby. So this monument honors not only the soldiers of one brigade, but a pivotal point in
the battle...and in the entire war.
You can read more about this site on the Gettysburg National Military Park quarter information page. —Peter
