Dear David,
It is really a pleasure to send you a letter.
I would have never imagined I would dare because, you know, it's huge.
1 - You're The Hoff.
2 - English is not my native language.
3 - You're The Hoff!!!
But I am doing this for my pals. And also because I am the only one who has the guts to do that
(yes I am the girl).
Well, what do they want, what do WE want?
WE WANT THE HOFF.
We want you to be the patron of the
"23 Hours Comic Day 2015" (In french :
"23 Heures de la Bande Dessinée").
We love you! All the team members are huge fans.
Piak is by far the biggest and I think that if you say
"yes" he's gonna be crazy like... really crazy.
You have that power.
To be the patron of our free event is mostly an
honorific (and funny) job. It will take you a moment of
your time (a few minutes actually)... but our gratitude
will last forever.
FOREVER. I mean it.
Let me explain who we are, how nice and funny we are and why you are gonna say "yes".
You may or may not have heard about something called the 24 Hour Comics Day, where artists
commit to create, over 24 hours, a 24-pages long comic.
A bunch of us loved the idea and used to participate, but then, back in the days, in 2008, a little
group of French comic artists decided to create a shorter (hence, harder) version of this, over
the switch to daylight savings time in Europe. We called it the "23 Hours Comic Day".
So we are drawing for 23 hours... and that's hard. But we're doing it wearing bunny ears...
which is cool. There were only a few dozens of us when it started, but now we are more than a
thousand artists!
There is quite a bunch of seasoned professionals but the majority of the participants are young
budding artists, even children!
With the help of our friends, we translated the instructions in six languages and managed to
become a worldwide artistic online event.
All that for free, with no ads. Just us.
But that's not enough! We have a plan! We, bunnies, want to rule the world! We want to make it
a better place! French comic writers will make it! HA HAAAAA HA HA ha, Ha ha.
Nope, I'm joking.
But. Still.
We thought it could be nice to use those moments of creativity and fun to raise awareness
about little things like, you know, homophobia, animal rights, family or the different ways to live
together.
How do we do that? By promoting each year the work of a non-profit organization and also
sometimes in the choice of the theme and the constraint of the marathon.
This year, we thought we could talk about the ocean.
Mmmm... to be perfectly honest, we choose to talk about the ocean because we thought it could
be THE PERFECT EXCUSE to ask you to be our patron.
Was it a good idea? Will you say "yes"? (Say "yes" please.)
For the record, the non-profit organization we already choose
this year is a french local point of "Surfrider Foundation Europe".
It's dedicated to defending, saving, improving and managing in a
sustainable manner the ocean, coastline, waves and the people who
enjoy them. They were surprised and glad to be chosen. They will be
in charge of finding the theme of the marathon and post it on their
Twitter and Facebook account on march 28th.
If you say "yes" you will be our patron and YOU will have to choose the constraint*.
And also let us brag around and shout out loud that you are our patron this year. (That's
the best part.)
All you have to do is to secretly send me the constraint at [email protected] a few days before
the marathon so that I can have your words translated in six languages before the big day. Then
on D-day, you will have to post it (but only in english) on your Twitter or Facebook or Youtube
account, wherever you want... at the beginning of the marathon, on march 28th, at 1PM in Paris
(GMT+1)
I hope you will say "yes".
You know, we do not have a penny but we have a lot of pens!
And we will draw you! A thousand people are gonna draw you!
Nothing will stop us. Even if you don't say "yes" you will be in our comics this year.
Because we have been talking and dreaming about having you as our patron for so long.
And we know that you already have the bunny ears
because we have been stalking you for months!!!
There! Here! You already got it!
Please :)
Dites OUI !
On vous embrasse tous !
Zia,
and her pals Piak, Turalo, Lugol, Gary, Paka, Goliver, Emmy and a thousand of little rabbits.

* The constraint must be something like "use no words" or "use a flash-back" or "put a big
ridiculous hat in your comic" (this one was chosen by Scott Mc Cloud, creator of the 24HCD in
the US, when he accepted to be the patron of our event in 2013).
