Dear Parent/Guardian
In Geography this semester, your daughter is studying Geographies of Interconnections, a unit which
explores the issues of fragile environments, food security and global connections. As an integral part
of the curriculum, students participate in a field trip to Kosciuszko National Park.
Each student is expected to accurately and comprehensively complete field notes during the field
trip. In the following week students will complete an in-class written response based on their field
notes. Students will be assessed on the degree to which they demonstrate skills in collecting data in
the field, apply and evaluate information gathered to draw appropriate conclusions and
communicate ideas and information in a fluent and appropriate form.
The program your daughter will follow is detailed below:Itinerary:
Friday 23rd October 2015
6.40 am
Meet at Merici College (sheltered area on oval)
7.00 am
Travel to Kosciuszko National Park (brief stop in Cooma)
10.00 am
Arrive at Saw Pit Creek - NPWS Education Unit for the day program

Field work undertaken at Saw Pit Creek, Dainers Gap, Perisher, Spencers Creek and
Charlotte Pass
4.00 pm
Depart the National Park for Canberra
6.45 pm
Arrive at Merici College
Students will travel by Bensleys Coaches. They will be in the care of Merici College teachers and staff
from the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service.
Students must wear and bring:
 Full Merici PE uniform including tracksuit pants-NO skins please
 Sensible walking shoes with a change of socks - students will be out and about in the
National Park
 Waterproof jacket or coat - very important
 Sunscreen, hat and gloves
 A water bottle
 A clip folder, pens, pencils and eraser
 Students should bring their own food and drink as there will be no opportunity to
purchase lunch
Please remind your daughter that appropriate behaviour is expected at all times as she is a
representative of the College.
