Known for its lush groves of juicy citrus,
Lake County is home to more than a dozen
farming operations that allow visitors the
opportunity to hand pick their own fresh,
locally grown fruits and vegetables.
Other than the sweet navels and tangy
tangelos, the “u-pick” farms in the area also
tout a delectable variety of berries and
grapes. For the more adventurous type,
several farms in Lake County cultivate
exotic fruits such as Muscadine grapes, figs
and persimmons.
While citrus has long been a signature fruit
of Lake County, other locally grown
vegetables sport a neighborhood name.
Sample the Sorrento Sweet Onions in East
Lake County or Zellwood Sweet Corn,
grown at large farms south of Mount Dora.
Just remember whatever fresh fruit or
vegetable you seek, there is an ideal
season for each. Please consult each
“u-pick” farm before setting out for
excursion. So whether the family is hunting
for that perfect Christmas tree or a basket
brimming of fresh strawberries, Lake County
farms have it all.
