Scott [Mann],
Here is a quick clarifying statement that Gary asked that I send to you.
If you have any questions please let me know.
Thanks,

"I
feel that it is necessary to address two areas of concern with the article posted this week
based on the conversation I had with the Sandstorm Scholar. I respect the nature in which this
article was written, however I also feel it is important to provide clarification in order to ensure
an accurate and complete depiction of my statements.
In your article, I was quoted as saying “if opponents are successful in preventing AEG from
winning the bid that it will cost the city of Lubbock $20 million per year.” I did not make this
exact statement. The comment that I made was not intended to highlight a specific bid put in
by any company involved in this RFP. As I stated several times during the discussion, I cannot
and will not disclose information specific to any bidder since the process is still in the blackout
period. My comment was that when a company is dealing with a project of this size, a project
that could come with a price tag of $600 to 800 million, it would not be out of the realm of
possibility that a dismissal of a low bidder could hypothetically cost $10, $20 or 30 million a
year. I understand how this could be interpreted as actual cost information, but I must stress
that I was merely speaking in generalities.
It has been stated several times on this forum, as well as others, that a decision has been made
on how we are proceeding forward with future generation. This decision has not been made.
In reality, we have not yet reached the point where staff has given recommendations to the
Electric Utility Board. Throughout this process it is important that we follow closely the rules
and procedures of the RFP.
The second area of clarification is very important and in this area I want to be very clear. I do
not believe that Mayor Glen Robertson or EUB members Marc McDougal and Clayton Isom
have anything to personally gain from the outcome of the RFP process. I believe their only
motivation is to do everything in their power to assure that Lubbock has a reliable and
affordable supply of electricity for the future. It was implied that I was stating something in
opposition to this sentiment and that could not be further from the truth. All concerned should
remain focused on the simple goal of delivering reliable, affordably priced electricity to LP&L
customers."
