Al Logsdon, Spencer County Commissioner AIC President As President of the AIC, I welcome you to the Association of Indiana Counties’ 57th Annual Conference in LaPorte County. This year’s host committee is made up of officials from LaPorte County, and they have worked hard to welcome us and make the 2015 conference one you all will remember for years to come! As always, this year’s conference will include many educational and professional networking opportunities. Over the next four days you will have several opportunities to attend many workshops, and to learn from the knowledgeable and engaging speakers who will help you gain a better understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing county government in 2016. As you take advantage of the learning opportunities, be sure to allow time for networking with your peers. Several events have also been planned to help you relax and unwind. The AIC has made it easy to network with vendor representatives and other county officials, who like you, are working tirelessly for the communities they serve. Your affiliate association president has planned a great meeting for your group. Keep up to date on issues related to your office by attending this important and educational meeting. GENERAL SESSION Keynote Speaker, Anthony Domine, will be speaking to us about place branding and the importance of our reputations and identities as individuals, offices, counties, and communities. This session explores how defining your competitive identity – which by design pulls everyone together to speak in Anthony Domine one voice – can provide direction, unification and an overall more effective approach to not only traditional marketing, but everything you do to influence your reputation at a personal, office, and county level. Anthony Domine has a marketing degree from Belmont University where he received the Lambert Award for Outstanding Achievements in Marketing. 5 David Thompson, the new President and Managing Director of the NACo Financial Services Center, will also be joining us during the General Session, and the session will close with the 2015 AIC Institute for Excellence in County Government graduation and the awarding of the Masters Pins. The AIC staff and training committee have a number of informative workshops planned that impact all county offices. With three rounds of workshops and one featured workshop, there are bound to be sessions that interest you. Remember that by attending these workshops you will not only learn more about county issues, but you will also earn three Institute credits! On Wednesday don’t forget lunch is served in the exhibit hall. AWARDS BANQUET AND CONCERT After a long day of picking and choosing among nine workshops and walking the exhibit hall, enjoy a cocktail during the Reception and then celebrate the achievements of your colleagues at the Awards Banquet. Each year the AIC recognizes an outstanding county official within each affiliate group who distinguished themselves in office and has made particular contributions to their respective affiliate associations and the AIC. County Achievement and Local Government Cooperation Awards are also awarded to counties who demonstrate substantial leadership, collaboration between multiple municipalities, and have had a positive impact on the community. The AIC’s highest award, the Arthur Himsel Service Award, is given to a county elected official who has distinguished him or herself as a leader and provided exceptional service to their county.
