Setting up Cornell notes
1. The second section of your 3-subject notebook will
be your grammar reference
2. We will be taking notes in cornell note format this
year
3. Turn to the second section of your 3-subject
notebook
a. Leave two pages blank (this will be your table of contents)
b. On the third page, set up your notes according to the guide on
the next slide
c. If you don’t have your 3-subject notebook yet, please do this on
a separate sheet of paper and we will staple it into your
notebook. Have all your supplies by the end of the week!
I. Apostrophes used to show possession
A. to form the possessive of a singular noun,
add an apostrophe and an s to the word
1. example:
a) the girl’s shoe
b) the dog’s toy
c) the president’s speech
B. To form the possessive of a plural noun
that ends in “s” already, add an
apostrophe to the end of the word as is.
1. example:
a. the football players’ equipment
vs.
b. the football team’s equipment

c. the football teams’s equipment

Normally, add an apostrophe before the s to make an irregular plural
possessive
