AUDITION INFORMATION for CHARLOTTE’S WEB, The Musical
Auditioning for a show can be a scary experience. What you must remember is that everyone at the
audition is apprehensive. Below are tips and materials to help you do well.
PLEASE NOTE: THERE IS A $60 CLASS FEE IF YOU ARE ACCEPTED INTO THE SHOW.
(Some scholarships are available for need cases.)
GENERAL
1.
Be on time! Plan to stay the entire audition time. Choose only one day to audition.
Monday, March 27 or Tuesday, March 28 from 6:00-8:30 p.m. at the Howmet
Playhouse in Whitehall, Michigan. If you absolutely cannot make one of these times,
call 231-740-5500 and ask for Alice.
Have all required forms filled out upon arrival. (APPLICATION & CONFLICT SHEET)
Dress comfortably and in neutral clothing. (No message T-Shirts, etc.)
If you have long or floppy hair, please have it pulled away from your face so we
can see your expressions.
Speak clearly, loudly, and confidently when answering a question or reading for a part.
Attend with an “I can” attitude rather than an “I can’t” attitude. In other words, be willing to
try something new and make every attempt to follow the directions you are given.
Think creatively. Don’t just copy the person preceding you.
Please be respectful of others. Do not talk while others are auditioning.

PRE-AUDITIONING PREPARATION will help you succeed.

Watch clips of Charlotte’s Web performances and videos online to give you an idea about
the characters and their personalities. (Rat, Pig, Spider, Goose, Gander, Sheep, Lamb)

Practice different voices for the animals as well as potential accents for
the country folk.

Think about and experiment with movements that would be suggestive of specific animals.

You will be taught the songs “Nice To Meet You” and “ Who Says We Can’t Be Friends”.
You will be asked to sing in a group and by yourself as well. The words are attached if you
would like to memorize them. You can find the melody to these using the following address.

You will be asked to participate in an improvisational and dance/movement activity.

After the above, you may be invited to read for a specific character but it is not guaranteed
that everyone will receive this opportunity.

The cast will be from 15 to 20 people. Monday nights will always be a rehearsal night.
Friday evenings (early) are also a key time for rehearsals. An occasional Saturday morning
or Sunday evening will also be used. Lessons or character work with directors will be
handled on an individual basis. REQUIRED: Everyone must be available for rehearsals
from Sunday, June 11 through performance dates: June 15, 16 & 17. This is the week after
school is out for most students. You will need to be able to rehearse afternoon and evening
this week. If your school is not out yet, do not let that deter you from auditioning. Special
arrangements could possibly be made but it would be depend on the specific
circumstances of that individual.
