Chromatemp Liquid Tempera
Ready-to use, this paint has a smooth fluid consistency and
does not settle out as much as other temperas so there is
little need for shaking or stirring. Exceptional student colours
mix cleanly and brilliantly to produce secondary hues. May be
over-painted without lifting and dries to a non-shiny matte
finish. Tempera is resoluble when dry and cleans up easily
with soap and water.

experimenting with the products. The images above were created using Chromatemp paints. The Fish and Abstract
pieces illustrate both the covering powering and marking-making retention of these student paints. Mosaic Cat is
painted on recycled cardboard, cut into tiles, and glued to a cereal box. Leaves started as a colour mixing
experiment to fill a page with green by mixing yellow and blue. When dry, a bold shape was cut out and both the
positive and negative shapes were pasted side by side. Good paints can make other simple materials come to life
and produce lovely artworks. We hope you will share your students’ work with us.

Watercolours
This is an economical set of watercolours that includes a
brush in a plastic palette box. The lid doubles as a mixing area
and the semi-moist pans are easy to rewet to create intense,
mixable colours.

excellent tinting strength and good working properties. These
colours will go further than most student watercolours.
Squeeze a small amount (approximately 2 ml) of each colour

painting session simply by rewetting with a brush.

Burma Masking Fluid
Masking Fluid protects areas of your work when
colour is applied in broad washes. It can be
applied to white paper or previously coloured
areas. Shake the bottle before use and do not
use it on damp paper. Use old brushes or dip
pens and wash brushes in soapy water immediately after use.
Ensure the fluid is dry before applying colour and do not
leave it on paper for long periods of time.

Rheotech Gels

Chromacryl Student Acrylic
Developed for middle school use, Chromacryl Student Acrylics
give teachers the opportunity to use a quality acrylic paint at
an economical price. Chromacryl has brilliant intermixable
colours and is fast drying with a rich low-gloss finish. It’s
flexible and water resistant and can be used on canvas, wood,
paper mache, or for block printing, and screen printing. With
the addition of a textile medium, it can also be painted on

Tips for Mural Painting
Call us for advice on mural painting and varnishing.
You may wish to consider good quality paints that
are lightfast (fade-proof). We offer excellent volume
discounts on Golden as well as Stevenson and Tri-Art.
(Stevenson and Tri-Art are both made in Canada). Call

How much paint do I need?

A general rule of thumb: 1 Liter (32 oz) of paint will
cover about 100 square feet (give or take what is used
for colour mixing and possible waste on palettes).
We recommend extra white and yellow as students go
through a lot of these two colours for mixing and
highlighting.
How long will the mural last?
Using student paints means the mural may fade after
only a couple of years. Artist quality paints will last 10
years or more – even on outdoor murals. An isolation
coat is usually applied over the paint before varnishing.
In the events of graffiti, pollution, or mechanical
damage, the painting can be cleaned, the varnish
removed, and then reapplied without harming the
painting,
How much will a mural cost?
After assisting hundreds of mural projects, we’ve
discovered that the average mural costs between $1.75
- $2.75 per square foot depending on choice of colours
and number of isolation and varnishing layers.

Soda Ash
This is a mild soap specifically made for removing
excess dye. When dyeing, not all of the dye will
react with the fiber being dyed. Excess dye,
therefore, must be removed to prevent
backstaining. Rinse the fiber as thoroughly as
possible, then launder with one tablespoon per
load. Synthrapol will suspend and carry the
excess dye from the fiber making colour more
laundry stable in the future.

Dye-Na-Flow
Dye-Na-Flow is a free flowing,
concentrated liquid colour that
behaves like a dye or watercolour. It
will spread on fabric until it is
thoroughly absorbed and evenly
distributed and the colour is fixed by
ironing. Every fabric provides a
different flow or spread of colour.
Dye-Na-Flow is magical on silk. It also
works on any type of fiber, natural or synthetic without
altering the feel of the fabric.
Dye-Na-Flow is incredibly versatile. It’s perfect for silk
painting, airbrushing, stenciling, batik, salt technique, sponge

is a mild alkali that promotes the chemical reaction between
Procion MX fiber reactive dye and cellulose fiber. Soda Ash is
necessary to activate and "set" Procion dye. Please wear

Porcelaine 150
Pebeo products make professional ceramic painting available
to all. Paints, markers, and outliners can be mixed together
and made permanent by simply baking at 150°C (300°F) in
any domestic oven. Porcelaine 150 is available in 45 colours
including 10 Shimmer colours, 10 Outliner Paste colours, 9
colours in fine tip markers and 9 colours in bullet tip markers.
These glass paints are transparent and water-based and give
the appearance of body-dyed glass. Applied on glass and
crystal, the transparency of Vitrea 160 colours allow you to
take full advantage of the light. It can be baked at 160 C (325
F) in a domestic oven. The finished product has excellent light

Before painting with Vitrea 160, simply degrease the surface
with alcohol or soapy water. Paint using any number of
techniques. Allow to air dry for 24 hours, and then bake in an
ordinary domestic oven. Place the decorated object in a cold
oven. Once the temperature has reached 160°C (325°F), allow
to bake for 40 minutes. After baking, colours are dishwasher
safe and resistant to detergents and common solvents.

Porcelaine 150 Paints can be applied to all heat-stable bases
that are able to withstand a temperature of 150°C (300°F),
such as porcelain, china, glazed earthenware, terracotta,
metal, enameled sheet steel, copper, and glass. First degrease
the surface with alcohol or soapy water, and then apply
colours with brush, stencil, sponge etc. After observing the
required drying time (minimum 24 hours), place the
decorated object in a cold oven. When the temperature of
the oven has reached 150°C (300°F), bake for 35 minutes.
Colours will have a real enameled look and will be
dishwasher and food safe.

To remove dried, hardened acrylic paint, try soaking the
brush in a little ammonia window cleaner such as Windex. Be
sure to keep the wooden part of the handle above the water
line. The ammonia with soften the acrylic paint making it
easier to remove by scrubbing with a stiff scrub brush.
If you have a synthetic brush that is bent or warped out of
shape, here’s what you do: dip the brush quickly into boiling
water. The rayon hairs will soften back into their factory
shape.

Sculpture
Gedeo Moulding Alginate
This is an all-natural seaweed-based powder. Suitable
for moulding complete items, soft or delicate objects,
and body parts.
1. Find a flexible container that holds item. Place
clean dry object in container so that it doesn’t
touch the walls.
2. Mix alginate according to instructions. Pour
over object.
3. Let set per instructions Pull out of the mold and
use butter knife to cut mold in half – logically
so that the object can be pulled out easily
(whether it is a delicate original or the castmade duplicate).
4. Pour in plaster or resin to make a copy. Let
plaster set as per instructions and then remove
from mould.
5. Reuse mold again quickly before it starts to dry
and shrink. After casts dries, paint as desired
using acrylics.
