I Pledge Allegiance Opening
Cubmaster:
When you pledge allegiance to the U. S. flag,
you promise loyalty and devotion to your
nation. Each part of the pledge has a
meaning:
Cub Scout #1: “I pledge allegiance” means I promise to be true.

Cub Scout #3: “of the United States of America” means our country made up of
50 states, each with certain rights of its own.
Cub Scout #4: “and to the Republic” means a country where the people elect
their fellow citizens to make laws for them.
Cub Scout #5: “for which it stands” means the flag represents the country.
Cub Scout #6: “one nation under God” means a single country whose people
believe in religious freedom.
Cub Scout #7: “indivisible” means the country cannot be split into parts.
Cub Scout #8: “with liberty and justice” means with freedom and fairness.
Cub Scout #9: “for all” means for every person in the country.
Cubmaster: Thank you Cub Scouts. Please join with me in saying the Pledge of
Allegiance and the Cub Scout Promise.

Presidents Mobile
Materials:
String – 15” long
Red construction paper (half sheet for each Cub Scout – cut widthwise)
Scissors
President cards (printed on white copy paper)
President sketches (printed on white copy paper)
Heart template (for boys to trace to cut out a heart)
Pencils
Hole-punch
While Cub Scouts are building this mobile (or before they begin) you could have
them start to list some people who have been the President of the United States.
See if they can come up with 10 or 15 names of different presidents.
This mobile helps us remember some things about the presidents George
Washington and Abraham Lincoln.
Instructions:
(see pictures)
1. Cut out a heart template.
2. Using the cut out template, trace a large heart onto a half
of the red construction paper.
3. Cut out the heart.
4. Cut around the sketches of President Washington
and President Lincoln.
5. Glue President Washington’s sketch to the middle of
one side of the red heart.
6. Glue President Lincoln’s sketch to the middle of the
other side of the red heart.
7. Punch a hole in the point of the heart.
8. Attach the string by threading the string
through the hole a little bit and then tying a
knot.
9. Cut out the president cards. There should
be 8 cards – 4 for President Lincoln and 4 for
President Washington.
10. With the string in between 1 card describing President Lincoln and 1 card
describing President Washington, glue the cards together back to back. Glue the
cards so that the cards describing President Lincoln face the same side of the
heart his sketch is facing. Make sure to put the cards describing President
Washington facing the side that his picture is facing.
11. If you’d like, you can punch a few
more holes at the top of the heart to use
to hang wherever you would like.

What’s His Name Relay
Materials:
masking tape for lines
Instructions:
Divide Cub Scouts into relay teams with equal team sizes if possible. Mark a
starting line and a turning line for each team – making the turn line 15-20 feet
away from the starting line.
Have each team line up behind their starting line.
On “go”, the first runner in each team’s line will run to the turn line and then run
back to the next player on their team. Before the second runner can begin to run,
the first runner has to give the name of a person who has been a President of the
United States.
The second runner runs to the turning line and returns to his team and gives the
name of a person who has been a President of the United States. The name the
second player gives cannot be the same name as one given by the first runner on
the team.
If the team can no longer come up with president’s names, the runner (before
running) will need to see a leader who has the resource sheet (list of presidents)
and ask for a name. The leader will give them a name – and it may take a few tries
to find a name that hasn’t been given by other runners before. This will take time,
so the team will lose time if they have to ask a leader for a name.
The first team to complete the running and have all runners say different names
of presidents, wins the game!
Variation:
This game could also continue for a certain amount of time.
Core Values:
Health & Fitness, Cooperation, Honesty
