European River Cruising

Welcome back to the Bellejour
and Bellefleur
2016 will be our second year of chartering the Bellefleur and the Bellejour
from Cruise & Maritime Voyages. We have been delighted with the
reports from our passengers in 2015 who have enjoyed our bespoke
itineraries and exceptional inclusions.
In 2016 we will repeat our seven day itinerary on the Rhône, round trip from Lyon,
combining the majesty at Avignon and Dijon, the vineyards of Beaujolais, the artists centre
at Arles and the culinary exploration en route, particularly in Lyon. This year’s departure
will be on 1st July, 2016.
We will charter the Bellejour this year for 24 nights. This will be for three cruises that can
be combined into an extended holiday or taken as a shorter break.
The first of these, on 11th June, 2016 will be a wonderful 10 night itinerary, round trip from
Budapest to the treasures of Eastern Europe all the way to the Black Sea. Highlights will
include Belgrade, Bucharest, Costanţa on the Black Sea, the Danube Delta, the ancient
towns of Ruse and Novi Sad, a visit to the Puszta - great grasslands of Southern Hungary and a cruise through the Djerdap Gorge, a highlight of any visit to Serbia.
Bellejour continues on 21st June for a 7 night cruise along the Danube and through the
Main – Danube Canal from Budapest to Nuremberg. Full of highlights this cruise includes
an overnight in Budapest, the Slovakian Capital of Bratislava, Vienna, the incredible Abbey
at Melk and the beautiful towns of Regensburg and Passau.
Finally on 28th June, Bellejour continues along the Rhine from Nuremberg to Amsterdam.
The beauty of the Rhine as you pass great castles, magical towns and the famous Lorelei
is complemented by visits to the historic centres of Bamberg, Würzburg and Wertheim, the
great cities of Cologne and Utrecht and the World Heritage Site at Kinderdijk.
This wonderful odyssey aboard Bellejour can be taken as a seven or ten night holiday,
extended to a 14 or 17 night voyage or even to a transcontinental 24 night cruise from the
Black Sea to the North Sea.
When we chartered Bellejour and Bellefleur in 2015, we found exceptional ships with great
facilities and a reputation for service. Then we added wine with lunch and dinner, a full bar
service and sightseeing tours in each major city, offering a complete holiday with little else
to pay for enroute. We even included the gratuities to dining room and cabin staff.
Because of the great itineraries and exceptional inclusions and prices, the popular cabin
types went very quickly for our 2015 sailings. We expect the same to be true in 2016.
So book soon to ensure the cabin of your choice and we look forward to seeing you aboard.
With warmest best wishes,
The Cruiseco Management Team

Thu 16 June - TOUR THE BLACK SEA RESORTS
This afternoon you will embark the beautiful Bellejour in Budapest.
This evening as you enjoy your first cocktail and meet your cruise staff,
Bellejour slips away from the pier heading down the Danube towards the
Black Sea.
This afternoon you reach the river port of Cernavodă where you join
your tour to Constanţa, one of the oldest and largest cities in Romania.
Historic buildings, the great seaport and cafés against the backdrop of the
Black Sea are the features of Constanţa. You will visit the archaeological
museum, view the Art Nouveau Casino before heading to the district of
Mamaia, the most beautiful resort on the Romanian Black Sea. Here you
will have time to stroll in the town or along the beach before heading
back to Bellejour in time for dinner.
Sun 12 June - CRUISING THE DANUBE. TOURING BELGRADE
This morning you will be aboard cruising the Danube, getting used to this
amazing thoroughfare that takes traffic from the Black Sea, into the MainDanube Canal and on to the Rhine and the North Sea.
After lunch you will disembark at Novi Sad for your afternoon and evening
tour to the Serbian Capital, Belgrade. Belgrade is a hidden treasure, full
of wonderful Orthodox Churches, the stark buildings of the communist
era alongside medieval buildings and the city’s dominant Kalemegdan
Fortress. After time to wander the city we invite you to a typical Balkan
dinner and folkloric show in the city before returning to Bellejour for a
nightcap and overnight.
Mon 13 June - CRUISING THE DANUBE THROUGH THE
WONDERFUL DJERDAP GORGE
Fri 17 June - MORNING TOUR OF RUSE. AFTERNOON
CRUISING THE DANUBE
Ruse is a Roman City, once an important port berthing up to 60 Roman
ships and the gateway from Bulgaria to the rest of Europe. You will see
the Concert House, the Pantheon and the house of Elias Canetti – the
great Nobel Literature Laureate, who later lived in Germany and England.
You will also visit the Trinity Church and enjoy a short piano recital.
This afternoon will be relaxing on board as you cruise upstream on the
Danube.
The Djerdap Gorge (also known as the Iron Gates) is a 134km stretch of
the Danube from Serbia into Romania and separating the Carpathian
Mountains from the Balkan Mountains. This is all a wonderfully scenic
area, although the highlight is the Great Kazan where the river narrows to
150m and the cliffs rise to nearly 60m above the water.
Sat 18 June - A DAY CRUISING
Tue 14 June - MORNING CRUISING. AFTERNOON TOUR TO
BUCHAREST
An afternoon tour takes you to Novi Sad, where Europe meets the
Balkans. Novi Sad was once a major fortress and you’ll continue to the
Petrovaradin castle – one of the most imposing in Europe. The tower
here gives one of the best sweeping views of the river. From here
continue to Sremski Karlovki – once the spiritual and political centre of
Serbia – and where the treaty between the Turks and the Holy League
was signed in 1699.
After a leisurely morning cruising you arrive in Giurgiu after an early
lunch. Here you disembark for your tour to the Romanian Capital of
Bucharest. Home to 2 million people the city was modelled on Paris – full
of boulevards, parks, lakes and magnificent old buildings. You will visit
the Church of the Patriarch seat of Romania’s orthodox leader, the half
finished palace of former leader Ceausescu – ostentatious evidence of
former indulgence and the Palace of Parliament. We rejoin Bellejour down
river at Ostentiţa in time for dinner.
Wed 15 June - VISIT THE DANUBE DELTA
This morning again relaxing enjoying the river. After lunch a wonderful
tour as you explore the Danube Delta where the Danube flows into the
Black Sea. A World Heritage Site since 1991 it is home to more than 4000
species of animal and 1000 types of plant. Your excursion takes you on
small boats into the nature reserve, where you can witness the lives of
the fishermen and, with luck, see pelicans, great white herons, ibises and
ospreys.
A quieter day (after your hectic schedule for the last few days) as you
spend all day cruising along the Danube. On both sides there will be
small farming communities, historic towns and wide open spaces.
Sun 19 June - NOVI SAD
Mon 20 June - A DAY IN THE PUSZTA. FAREWELL DINNER
Your final day aboard Bellejour (unless you are continuing on with us) is
a lot of fun as you head to the Puszta, the great Hungarian grasslands.
Here you will visit a traditional Hungarian farm where you will be
welcomed with Apricot Brandy, before a horse and cart ride around the
farm. After a show of horsemanship and races enjoy some Hungarian
wine and snacks.
A Captain’s Farewell Gala dinner will be held on board tonight to
celebrate your wonderful 10 days aboard Bellejour.

so there is also a chance to explore ashore after dinner. An optional tour
this afternoon (additional cost) includes the enormous Schönbrunn Palace,
home of the Habsburg Emperors and with more than 1400 rooms.
This evening there will be an opportunity for joining passengers to meet
continuing passengers as well as your cruise staff before dinner.
Sat 25 June - MORNING IN DÜRNSTEIN. AFTERNOON IN
MELK.
Bellejour remains overnight in Budapest.
After an early breakfast you will enjoy a walking tour of the lovely Austrian
Town of Dürnstein. This medieval town dates back to the 12th Century
and England’s King Richard the Lionheart was once imprisoned in the
city. Stroll the vineyards that overlook the town and the charming centre,
before returning to Bellejour for lunch.
Wed 22 June - BUDAPEST
Along with Vienna, the pomp of the Austro-Hungarian Empire is best
preserved in Budapest. Your tour starts in Pest on the left bank of the
Danube where you will see Heroes Square, the Hungarian State Opera,
St. Stephen’s Basilica and the awe-inspiring Parliament building along
the banks of the River. Crossing to Buda you climb to the historic castle
area full of architectural treasures. Here you will visit Matthias Church
(‘The Coronation Church of the Lady’) as well as the neo Romanesque
Fisherman’s Bastion affording the best views of the city.
This afternoon is free for independent sightseeing (and great shopping).
Tonight after dinner you sail from Budapest.
Thu 23 June - BRATISLAVA
Early this afternoon you arrive in Bratislava, the Capital of Slovakia. Your
included tour takes you by mini-train to the 10th century castle, 83 metres
above the city, with its four distinctive towers and wonderful view of the
city and the river beyond. From here you return to the city itself for a
guided stroll through the medieval alleyways, with their townhouses from
the Renaissance period. In the Town Square you will see the Baroque
Palaces that are such a feature of the city before walking back to the
Bellejour. Late evening departure from Bratislava.
Fri 24 June - ALL DAY IN VIENNA
One of the highlights of your cruise brings Bellejour to the Austrian Capital
of Vienna this morning. Your morning tour includes all the highlights.
These include the mighty palaces along the Ringstrasse, the Wiener
Riesenrad Ferris Wheel, St. Charles Church and the home of the Vienna
Philharmonic. From here you will stroll through the alleys and courtyards
of the old city, where you can visit St. Stephens Cathedral, relax in a
coffee house or time for some shopping before returning to Bellejour in
time for lunch.
During lunch Bellejour continues to Melk. Your afternoon tour includes a
visit to the immense abbey – the largest Baroque site in Austria. Dating
from the 18th Century, the Abbey is 240 meters long, the dome 64
metres high and your visit will include the Imperial wing and the world
famous library with over 80,000 volumes.
Sun 26 June - AFTERNOON VISIT TO PASSAU
This morning Bellejour passes from Austria into Germany before you
arrive in the Bavarian Town of Passau.
Your walking tour this afternoon includes the highlights of this city
that dates back to Roman times and was a major power during the
Renaissance. Your tour visits St. Stephens cathedral and the old city.
Passau is at the junction of three rivers and everywhere in the city looks
down on the water.
Mon 27 June - AFTERNOON IN REGENSBURG
This morning is your last morning cruising on the Danube watching
the activity on the banks of the river as well as the variety of river craft
that pass. After lunch you arrive in the wonderful Bavarian town of
Regensburg. Your walking tour includes all the highlights of perhaps
Bavaria’s most beautiful city. Visit the Town Hall, the Stone Bridge and the
Cathedral as well as the small streets and alleys dating back over many
centuries.

the completion of this leg of Bellejour’s cruise from the Black Sea to the
North Sea.
Tue 28 June - ARRIVE NUREMBERG

Tue 28 June - NUREMBERG
Sun 3 July - COLOGNE
If you are continuing your cruise aboard Bellejour we invite you to enjoy
a morning tour of the historic city of Nuremberg, including the castle and
Albrecht Dürer’s House. If you are joining Bellejour today, embarkation
will commence at 3pm. Bellejour sails from Nuremberg early this evening
whilst our new passengers are meeting the continuing passengers and
the cruise staff over a cocktail.
One of the highlights of your tour is a visit to Cologne and Bellejour is
here all day. In the morning a tour introduces you to the city. The tour
strolls through the many highlights of the old city to the magnificent
Cathedral. Here a history of the Cathedral will be given, after which you
can explore inside on your own or walk back to Bellejour with your guide.
This afternoon will be free for you to explore Cologne on your own until
Bellejour sails early evening.
Wed 29 June - BAMBERG
You are in Bamberg all day. The day starts with a tour of the city starting
in the historic centre with the Town Hall and the Cathedral. Maybe
the highlight of Bamberg is the ‘little’ Venice area – a former fishing
settlement consisting of ornate rows of timbered houses dating back to
the middle ages. The tour finishes back at Bellejour before lunch, but
Bamberg is well worth heading back to in the afternoon on your own to
explore this charming World Heritage Site at your own pace.
Mon 4 July - KINDERDIJK AND UTRECHT. FAREWELL DINNER
Thu 30 June - WÜRZBURG
After a final afternoon cruising, Bellejour arrives in Utrecht late afternoon,
where you can stroll through the town before the Captain’s Farewell Gala
dinner aboard. Utrecht was the most important city in the Netherlands
until the middle ages and remains the centre of religion.
Arrive in historic Würzburg after lunch in time for your tour to the
Würzburg Residence, home of successive Prince-Bishops. From here
stroll to the centre of the town where you will see the Marienkapelle (late
gothic church), the market place and enjoy the stunning view from the
Old Main Bridge over to the Marienberg Fortress. Before returning to
Bellejour there is some free time for you to stroll around.
Fri 1 July - WINE TASTING AT DEPPISCH. AFTERNOON
CRUISING
This morning Bellejour will berth in the World Heritage site of Kinderdijk,
having passed into Holland during the night. Kinderdijk is the oldest
collection of windmills remaining in Holland. These 19 mills are used to
pump water from the low lying land into a reservoir to stop it flooding.
There is no organised tour here but you are free to explore the area and
the windmills.
Tue 5 July - ARRIVE AMSTERDAM. DISEMBARK
This morning Bellejour arrives in Amsterdam. After breakfast - whether it
be at the end of 7, 14 or 24 days aboard – you must say ‘Farewell’ as you
disembark to continue with your travel arrangements.
An early start today sees you heading for one of the famous vineyards
along the Main River. Here a walk through the vineyards and an
explanation of the winemaking process. Of course, a tasting is enjoyed
before you rejoin Bellejour down river at Miltenberg. This afternoon
will be relaxing aboard as you cruise the river. Today and tomorrow
you cruise the most beautiful parts of the river where castles hang
precariously to the hilltops and beautiful villages come down to the river’s
edge.
Sat 2 July - RÜDESHEIM. VISIT THE EBERBACH MONASTERY
A 20 minute drive takes you through the beautiful Rheingau region –
famous both for its wine and the beautiful castles that cover the region.
At Eberbach Monastery you discover the history of the Cistercian monks,
dating back to the 12th century. The building is very important (the movie
‘Name of the Rose’ was filmed here) and you will visit the highlights as
well as see how the Cistercian monks made wine over the centuries. Of
course, there is a tasting before you return to Bellejour.
This evening Bellejour is berthed in Koblenz and, whilst there is no official
tour, there is the opportunity to stroll ashore before or after dinner.

Europe and the largest church in Europe. More than 10,000 monks
lived in the cloisters.
This afternoon is free, however there is an optional tour of the

You will visit the Basilica of Notre-Dame, the Roman theatre and at the
foot of the hill lies the three ancient quarters of Old Lyon, epitomising
the city’s magnificent history. On the way back to Bellefleur you will
stop on Fourvière Hill for a magnificent view of the city and the junction
of the Rhône and Saône rivers.
This afternoon is free as you cruise down the river. An optional tour
(additional cost) is available to the vineyards of Beaujolais leaving the
ship before it sails from Lyon and rejoining Bellejour downstream in
Vienne.
This afternoon you will wonder as you visit the Pont du Gard, the largest
surviving bridge from times of antiquity having been built in 1st century.
You will get a number of vantage points for the best photos of the three
story aqueduct before continuing to Uzès, an attractive little town dating
back to Roman times. You will return to Bellefleur late afternoon.
Wed 6 July - MORNING TOUR OF AVIGNON. AFTERNOON
TOUR OF ARLES
Perhaps the highlight of your entire cruise, your tour of the city of
Avignon this morning is overwhelming. The city wall still surrounds the

centre of Christian faith in Europe. You will walk across the famous Pont
Saint-Bénézet, see the Romanesque Cathedral and stroll along the
streets of the historic centre with the modern market hall and the stately
Patrician houses.
Once you return from your tour to Bellefleur the ship sails to the
nearby city of Arles arriving mid afternoon. Your afternoon tour in Arles
explores the Roman history of the city including the amphitheatre. You
will also visit the Church of St. Trophime and the old centre of the city.

Ardèche has eroded deep into the stone over millions of years
leaving deep gorges and an unusual landscape. The climate here
has a Mediterranean character with beavers and rare birds. Near the
Madeleine caves you can wonder at the impressive views and the
idyllic Mediterranean countryside. Rejoin Bellefleur at Le Pouzin.
This afternoon will be the last time to relax and enjoy your wonderful
cruise aboard the Bellefleur. This evening enjoy the Captain’s Farewell
Gala.
