Introduction
Our group went to an elementary
school in Rogers to help students learn
more about graphing. Colored goldfish
crackers were used as our manipulative. We
used three different worksheets that we
helped them fill out using the crackers.
The different types of graphs used were
tally and bar graphs. We also had them
sort the crackers on another page so they
could see the differences.
Project Overview
• Learn to sort different objects
• Learn to add the sorted objects
• Learn to make a bar graph using
sorted objects
• Learn to make a tally chart using
sorted objects
Sorting the Goldfish
Crackers
Sorting
• First we gave them
a bag of colored
goldfish crackers
and had them sort
them on their
worksheets.
Counting
• After they had their
goldfish sorted they
counted how many of
each color they had.
• Once they knew how
many of each color
they had they
answered some
questions on their
worksheets.
Making Tally Marks
• After counting to
see how many of
each color were in
the bag, they had
another worksheet
where they had to
show how many
they had using tally
marks.
Graphing
• Finally, once they
had their goldfish
sorted, counted,
and their tally
marks made, they
had to color a bar
graph showing how
many of each color
they had.

Project Objectives
• We met the EMPACTS objectives
because we worked together in a
group to help the community.
• We also used technology which is
another part of the objectives.
Community
• We went to Frank Tillery Elementary School and
worked with a second grade class.
• They benefited from us coming to their school
because we taught them how to graph, which is
something that is in the frameworks.
• Contacts: Rhonda Thomas, the 2nd grade teacher
and the administration at Frank Tillery for
allowing us to come visit.
Curriculum
• This project helped us to build many
skills, such as: how to use
technology, networking, organization,
teamwork, and how to figure out the
standards for what we were going to
be doing.
• These are the Standards that we
used.
•
A.4.2.1
DAP.14.2.1 DAP.15.2.1
•
A.6.2.1 DAP.15.2.2
Technology
• We used the internet, email, cell
phones, ELMO, PowerPoint, and
Word.
• The ELMO was the only thing that we
needed instruction on, and it is like
an overhead projector.
• The lesson plan and worksheets were
found at www.kidscount1234.com
Skills Developed
•

Teamwork
How to use technology
Time management
Communication
How to network with others
Methodology
• Maegan: Found worksheets, worked on
PowerPoint, worked on lesson plan
• Angela: Printed worksheets, made
arrangements with the school, talked
with the teacher, bought goldfish
crackers, worked on PowerPoint
• Tiffany: Worked on lesson plan, worked
on PowerPoint
Project Results
• We presented our project as a team.
• We experienced how to work
together.
• We gained experience teaching.
Future Project Ideas
Others could use this project at
another time and expand it by using our
lesson plan and implementing it at
other schools.
