The operation of this facility is detailed in this manual by equipment functionality and type of medium presentation. The major presentation mediums and the associated equipment are: V C R - D V D A VCR/DVD capable of VHS and DVD playback is available for the presentation of video materials. C O M P U T E R P R E S E N T A T I O N S The local computer is a current fully equipped “PC” type, located inside the projector itself, preloaded with all the most frequently used applications and connected to the network. V I D E O C O N F E R E N C I N G The console is equipped with a Tandberg videoconferencing system with 2 cameras in the theatre, one for the presenter and one for the audience questions as well as audience microphones. 2 B450 Theatre Multi media Console and Related Equipment Operations B450 Theatre is a Interactive Lecture Theatre Equipped with an Extensive Array of Multi Media Tools The multi media console is the control centre for a variety of instructional tools such as: Computer c/w high speed network connection VCR/DVD player High Light Output, High Resolution Video/Data Projector All of these devices are controlled by remote controls located in the console drawer 3 Chapter 1 Computer Monitor Control/Interface Panels – Console Access LIGHTS & DIMMER CONTROL SCREEN CONTROL LAPTOP INTERFACE Figure 01.0 Control Panel, containing, Light Control, Projection Screen Control, Auxiliary interface The first step is to access the console by using the lock keypad All room lighting is located on the Lighting Control Switches on the console. To access the console, Use the appropriate keycode to open the cupboard and drawers containing the remote contols To display information on the projection screen, lower the projection screen via the controls indicated in Fig 01.0 4 Chapter 2 Projector Based Control System Power Button Projector ON Figure 02.0 Touch Screen Panel The Local Computer is located inside the projector itself. Power Button Figure 02.1 Touch Screen Panel – Keypad Remove the Barco Remote Control from its storage location. Turn on the Monitor on the desktop. If the computer is already turned on simply log onto the computer using the local logon or your NSID. Simply double click the “PROJECTOR ON” icon on the desktop and the projector will turn on. If the computer is not turned on and the screen is black; press the “POWER BUTTON” on the remote control and the projector and computer will turn on. Power Button 5 Projector Based Control System, continued From the main Windows screen Projector inputs are located within the “START” menu. From this menu select the “MY SOURCES” icon. This will display the 4 input sources for the system. If this list is empty double click the “SCAN SOURCES” icon on the desktop. Simply select the appropriate input and it will bring up a new window with the input inside. This new Input window acts exactly like a regular “WINDOWS XP” window in the way that you can move it by the click and drag method or resize it using the click and drag from the corner. Once you are finished with this window close it by clicking the “X” in the top right corner. There are 4 sources to the system as well as the local computer. You can have all 4 sources open at the same time and tile them on the screen if you wish. You have to open each window separately and size it as described previously. 6 Chapter 3 – VCR/DVDorAUXVIDEO&AUDIO VCR/DVD Operations Open the doors, Insert the tape/dvd into the VCR/DVD, select the Vcr-DVD icon in the My Sources menu VCR/DVD VIDEO/DVD Control Buttons The VCR or DVD Controls are located on the Sony Remote Control. To view the VCR press the “VIDEO” button on the remote and the buttons now control the VCR. To view the DVD player press “DVD” button on the remote and the buttons now control the DVD player. The system has an external Aux video connection on the console as well so an external source can be connected. To view this source select the VCR-DVD from my sources and plug the source in to the connection on the console and the system auto switches to the new source. To return to the VCR-DVD unplug the external source from the console. This connection may require some technical assistance so feel free to call DMT for assistance. 7 How to Control Audio Levels Master Volume Audio control for all devices with audio is accomplished by: Using The “Master Volume” knob adjust audio levels for microphones, VCR/DVD & Computer. Simply turn the knob up or down accordingly. Note: Assistive Hearing Headsets are available through for individuals with hearing impairments. 8 Chapter 4-Computer Based Presentations The dedicated computer located in the Projector is an IBM compatible PC The computer CPU is located inside the projector. Once you have the projector turned on so is the PC. Due to the computer being located inside the projector there is a portable DVD drive located on the top of the rack in the console. There is also a USB extension cable located beside the SHARP monitor on the desktop. This is for a USB flash drive to be connected to the system. These will work as if you are using a computer directly in front of you. Computer DVD Rom USB Connection To Project the Computer Images Once you have the projector turned on, the background displayed is actually the computer so no other action is required to use the local computer. 9 Computer Presentations continued, Connecting Other Computers for Presentations If you wish to use a computer apart from the dedicated computer, an auxiliary computer access panel and surge protected AC outlets are located on the console for this purpose. The storage drawer contains a interconnect cables that will connect the outboard computer to the Auxiliary Computer Panel (see Figure 06.2). To Project the Aux. Computer Image: 1. Locate the “VGA” interconnect cable in the storage cabinet 2. Using the interconnect cable connect the auxiliary computer “Monitor out/VGA” to the Input Port on the Computer Panel on the console’s sloped control surface. 3. Select the “LAPTOP” icon from “MY SOURCES” in the START menu. Laptop Input 10 Chapter 5 Console Shut Down Procedures Procedures for securing the console at the close of the teaching sessions In order to ensure that all the console instructional devices remain in optimum operational condition and are secure, we recommend the following Shut Down procedures are adhered to. 1. At the close of each teaching session all remote devices i.e. wireless mouse, wireless microphone, laser pointer be locked in the storage drawer 2. Log out of the computer, but do not shut down the CPU In addition, if you are aware that there are no sessions scheduled to follow your use of the console, please perform these additional steps. 3. Ensure that power switches for all of the Wireless Microphones are shut off 4. On the Computer Desktop double click the “PROJECTOR OFF” icon as indicated in Figure 07.0 Projector Off 11 Shut down Procedures continued, 5. Ensure that all doors and drawers are securely closed and locked. Note: After the System Shut Down the Video/Data Projector’s cooling fans will continue to run for approximately two minutes. During this cool down period the projector cannot be re-powered. 12 Chapter 6 Additional Console Features Other Operational Features: The Multi Media Console incorporates several other operational features that may have some utility in course material presentation, such as: Auxiliary Audio, Video Additional video and audio sources (Additional Microphones, DVD Players etc.) can be connected to the console for presentation through connectors on the A/V Panel. Once connected, microscope & video sources can be projected by selecting the “AUX INPUT” button on the Touch Screen’s main menu screen. Video Conferencing System The Westwinds Theatre facility is equipped with an IP Video Conferencing system that will allow interactive video and audio conferencing with distant similarly equipped sites.
