WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE’S The Since 1989, Shakespeare Live’s annual outdoor Shakespeare week has been a highlight of the summer. Comedies, tragedies and history plays, great acting, interesting and skilled directing, fantastic handmade costumes and superb technical effects are found in a most beautiful open air setting, with the added advantage that you can stay dry, whatever the English summer throws at us, in the large covered stand, with its rows of numbered tiered seating. “ Talented ... menacing ... alluring ... mischievous ... magnificent ... superb ... dramatic ... striking ... terrifying ... timeless We have given thousands of pounds to charity, including in 2015 The Children’s Hospice South-West via our car parking partners, the Six-Ex Mini Owners Club; Swift Medics; Wiltshire Air Ambulance; and Theatre for a Change. We continually welcome new members to our talented team, and have a particular goal of encouraging young people to join both our cast & crew and our audience. As our regular audience will recognise, this year’s show includes a healthy influx of new members among the familiar faces! Four summer shows at the Royal Shakespeare Company’s prestigious Dell venue in Stratford-upon-Avon are, we hope, to be followed by a fifth - ‘Bottom’s Dream (that hath no bottom)’ this August. We will tour the show locally in the autumn. Pack a picnic, chill the Pimms and indulge yourself in a fabulously fun evening “ The seven performances of ‘The Tempest’ this July will include a Saturday matinee and our traditional Gala Night Saturday with live music and entertainment before the show and during the interval. Before every show, you are invited to picnic in the lovely grounds, or take advantage of the refreshment stall and the indoor bar. “ Review of ‘Macbeth’, Wiltshire Times, 2014 Last year’s stunning production of ‘The Taming of the Shrew’ in a suffragette setting and the acclaimed RSC Dell show ‘Seven Ages or What You Will’ continued to build both our audience and our reputation. More sophisticated and reflective than the earlier comedies, the plot includes revenge, dramatic shipwreck, magic, romance, attempted murder, philosophy, songs and rollicking comedy into one heady mix that should prove perfect entertainment for a summer’s evening. This rough magic I here abjure, and, when I have required Some heavenly music, which even now I do, I’ll break my staff, Bury it certain fathoms in the earth, 2016 is the 400th anniversary of the death of William Shakespeare. Not only are we taking part in special celebrations in Corsham and Lacock on April 23rd with Shakespeare Shorts, but our main July show this year is also an appropriate choice, as it is one of the final group of plays, first performed and set in our production in 1613, dealing with the passing of time and the need to choose the right moment to relinquish power. And deeper than did ever plummet sound I’ll drown my book.
