The new Unicum promo video evokes the heroic epochs of Hungarian history
Mounted soldiers with whips on fire, giant fishes in the Danube, the Parliament building under
construction and Alfred Hajos (Hungary’s turn-of-the-century star swimmer) are all in the same
movie. Zwack Unicum’s newest promo film evokes the last 225 years of outstanding events in the
history of Hungary which goes hand in hand with the history of the Zwack family and their
legendary liqueur. The promo video was shown at today's exclusive film premiere, also attended
by the creators of the film and members of the Zwack family.
"We are lucky, because we are conscious of the past, of our ancestors’ 225 years of history and the
sacrifices, the will to fight oppression and the
positive outlook which enables us to stand here
today and operate a really prosperous Company.
However, the same holds true also for Hungary’s
history, since Hungary is a proud nation of fighters,
able to adapt to any situation. Therefore, we feel
that our family history runs parallel to the history of
Hungary and that is how the new Zwack Unicum
promo film was born,” said Sándor Zwack about the
new promo film that people can see and get to
know as of today.
This is a special year, as in 2015 Zwack family
celebrates the 225th anniversary of the historic
moment in 1790 when Joseph II, Holy Roman
Emperor and King of Hungary, was first offered a sip
of the herb digestive which is now renowned
worldwide by Dr. Zwack, Royal Physician to the
Imperial Court. This is enacted in the first scene of
the new Unicum promo film. The family and the
Company have launched a series of programs
celebrating this anniversary in recent months,
culminating in this grandiose promo film. .
"Our goal was that the “always be positive” message be conveyed in this new film. However our aim
was not to depict it with a series of images evoking pathos and sentimentality, but we focused
instead on giving the film a contemporary look so that our customers today could relate to it. I
think that a very dynamic, extremely spectacular film was the end result, "- said Izabella Zwack.
During the premiere, the Zwack family and the creators presented together some parts of the film.
The spot begins with the usual scene of Joseph II, the Habsburg monarch with Dr. Zwack, which
underlines the ingenuity of the Hungarians, which has always been universally recognized world1
wide. This is followed by a sequence of the Hungarian Corps heroically fighting with whips during the
War of Independence of 1848-49 which celebrates the Hungarians’ fighting spirit, their warrior past.
Then, you can see Alfred Hajos, with the Parliament under construction in the background, which
symbolizes the abundance of Hungarian sports triumphs, but simultaneously other Hungarian
phenomena are featured such as the sturgeon, all of two metres long, that once swam in the
Danube. This brings us to today's Heroes' Square in a festival atmosphere emphasizing that the
Hungary is not a sad nation; we are blessed with huge zest and joie de vivre and a positive outlook.
Peter Bergendy, director of the promo film, also attended the event and shared with us the behind
the scenes secrets of the technical achievements involved in the film’s monumental visuals. Among
other things, he said that much research was required for the film, which made it possible to depict
the scenes from various epochs in an authentic way. The Flagellate Corps shown in the film really
existed and fought heroically during the '48-49 War of Independence, the construction of the
Parliament was reconstructed on the basis of a contemporary photo and the sturgeon swimming in
the Danube, vividly portrayed in the film, are true to life.
The promo film can be viewed online and will soon be available to a wider audience on television as
well.
