GUIDE LINES FOR PARENTS
HELP YOUR KIDS MAKE THE MOST OF WINTER BREAK
Parental support towards the development of a child’s education is a must.
It is important for parents to recognize that every child approaches studying and
assignment differently. Some children are most effective if they sit down and
complete their homework immediately; others work best if they have an
opportunity to run around outside for half an hour before they begin. Some
children need small rewards for completing their home assignment; others will do
their home assignment without incentives. Children are interested in different
subjects and have their own individual sets of strengths and weaknesses.
Make your child more independent by supporting him/her with various activities
like





Buttoning and unbuttoning shirts.
Arranging their toy shelf.
Learning to wear shoes and socks.
Learning how to zip their school bag and their uniform.
Sorting and pairing household items.
Good manners and good habits are lifelong assets and they should be practised
until they become a habit. Revise the four magical words: PLEASE, SORRY,
THANK YOU and EXCUSE ME, which we have learned as part of the basics of
good manners
Talk with your child about places you can go that will allow them to reflect on
what they are learning. This allows a lot of great conversations about their interest.
The four ways for parents to help a child with homework:
1. Show that you think homework is important by providing a consistent time
and place for it. Help your student concentrate by turning off the television,
and setting a good example by reading and writing yourself. Make sure your
child has the needed supplies and access to reference materials.
2. Check over the work your child is doing, offering help or monitoring when
needed.
3. Provide guidance and encouragement. Your job is not to do the work but to
help in ways your child needs.
Note: Please ensure that your child does not write anything in his / her text
books, page numbers that are given in the planner are just for reference.
