Minami Con 22 March 2015 4th-6th Welcome… Press Play to Start! Welcome to the 22nd Minami Con! And if you’ve been before, then you should hopefully know what to expect by now. However, if it’s your first time, don’t be shy. It’s a nice friendly crowd and we hope you’ll have fun over the weekend. There’s an Introduction to Minami event at 3pm on Friday which will hopefully give you enough information about the con – or you could just attend to heckle our cuddly con chairman. If you didn’t already know it, the theme this year is gaming – traditional and video. So be sure to look out for some theme-related events scattered on the schedule. This may be a clue to what will be in store for the Iron Cosplay this year as well! Registration desk is open from 12pm on Friday but the first event kicks off at 1pm. Be sure to hang around for the Minami Matsuri where you can chill, play some games, and have some snacks. This will be followed by our annual Minami Meltdown Variety Show. We will also have some live music with a couple of surprises in store at the Doki Doki Rockfest. All the fun and excitement will carry on until late on Sunday night where we chill down with Retro-oke and the Kotatsu Lounge. You’ll find a What and Where guide in your con bag which will have the map and schedule. We apologise in advance as the Conbook event descriptions may not match up to what’s in the schedule due to some last minute changes. If in doubt, ask, or lookup the descriptions on the website. Finally, Cooking with Babbit is back on Saturday afternoon where you will be able to enjoy some tasty food that have been thoroughly tested by some unfortunate guinea pig who now needs to go on a diet. Enjoy! The Minami Con Committee Con Charity Our con charity for this year is the British Heart Foundation, in memory of our beloved treasurer, gopher mum and friend, Ewan Chrystal. What to Do When You Arrive… Registration Show your proof of identity and collect your membership badge and con pack from the Registration Desk located at the foyer of the Novotel. The Registration Desk will be open from 12pm-7pm on Friday. If you arrive after the Registration Desk has closed or on a Saturday, please head up to Con Ops instead. Also, if you haven’t already bought a T-shirt yet and have changed your mind on seeing the gorgeous artwork, we will be selling T-shirts at the Registration Desk or at Con Ops once it has closed. Volunteer for Cosplay Café We are also in need of volunteer cosplay waiters and waitresses for the Cosplay Café. If you would like to help out at the café, then do come up to Con Ops to sign up for a shift or two. Volunteer for Gophering Minami Con is powered by a team of lovely hardworking bunch of gophers who make Minami look like it is running smoothly when in reality the committee members are running around like headless chickens. If you would like to volunteer to help out at the con, come up to Con Ops to sign-up. We’ll be open early on Friday morning before the con starts! Important Information… Con Ops Ops HQ is located on the 5th floor of the Novotel. If you have lost/found something within the con area that may belong to one of the other members, please come up to Ops. Masquerade If you wish to sign up to the masquerade, you can do so through our online form on the website before the con. Please note that if you are signing up at the con itself, you have up until Saturday 1pm to submit in your entry at Con Ops. The masquerade briefing at 4pm is mandatory. Don’t Forget to Bring… Proof of Identity for Registration We accept any of the following forms of identity: A valid passport A current full driving license or a provisional driving license Credit/Debit Card Citizen Card Official Student or College Card ProveIT Age Card Bank Statement showing your Con Registration address Recent Utility/Council bills or statements showing your Con Registration address Rent Book NHS Medical Card Young Persons Railcard Bring & Buy Items If there is anything that you want to sell at the con, you can bring it along to the con and we will help sell it for you. You can download the form from the website. Please note that the Con will take 10% on all bring and buy sales. The Bring & Buy Room will be opened during the following hours for receiving items: Friday 1pm-6pm Saturday 9am-10:45am To collect your sales takings and whatever items that were leftover, come up anytime on Sunday 1pm-4pm. Cosplays!!! Don’t forget to pack all your cosplays before you come. You have spent months painstakingly working on those cosplays for Minami – or you’ve crammed in making 5 outfits in the last 2 weeks! Don’t forget a repair kit but if something goes wrong, feel free to come up to Ops to see if we might have the supplies to help you. Events to Look Out for… We have an incredible variety of events – lots of fun and games, panels, talks and workshops that we hope you will enjoy. A full listing of all the events and descriptions is available on the website and also in the con book when you pick up your registration pack. Here are just a few things that we would like to highlight. Minami Matsuri Following on from last year’s successful format, we start off the Minami Matsuri with a bang on Friday evening at 6:30pm! We’ll have plenty of game stalls for a bit of fun along with the mega twister mat to get yourselves tangled up in. Expect to get sugar high on candy floss, popcorn and Japanese-style shaved ice with plenty of syrup choices! Minami Meltdown Variety Show Right after the Matsuri – we’ll bring you the Minami Meltdown!!! It’s a chance for you to get up on stage to play a couple of games and hopefully get thoroughly humiliated in your attempts to win that prize! Doki Doki Rockfest And the night goes on with a live music concert with plenty of fun in store! Be sure to join in the rocking crowd. Anime Anthems And If we’ve pumped you up with enough sugar to keep you going, use that energy to show off your dance moves as DJ Homan spins the deck. Masquerade Saturday night’s highlight event is the MASQUERADE! Be sure to grab a bite before you get settled in for this – it’s a going to skits and cosplay galore. Charity Auction The auction happens right after the masquerade. You can view items up for auction earlier on Saturday afternoon and then aim for a bid showdown for those much coveted items! DDR:UK Games Room Once again, we have the wonderful crew from DDR:UK running our games room, one of the few permanent rooms at the con! Located at the ibis Hotel just across the main entrance of the Novotel Hotel. Game challenges will also be running in the Novotel on Saturday night. Opening hours: Friday 2pm – 7pm Saturday 10am – 6pm Sunday 10am – 4pm Dealers’ Room The dealers’ room opens on Saturday and Sunday in an attempt to entice you to spend your money on whatever goodies they have. Expect some fabulous original art, sweets, collectibles, crafts and board games! Bring & Buy Room While the dealers’ room is about shiny new stuff, this room on the other hand is a flea market of what could be old tat or treasure. You might find some gems here! Opening hours: Saturday Sunday 11am – 6pm 10am – 1pm Locked Room Puzzle There are 24 sessions of locked room puzzle available. You can only enter once – so choose your team wisely. If you go in with anybody from the committee – be warned, we have a bad track record of killing the game! Sign up at Con HQ from Friday onwards. Maid Café For that lazy Sunday afternoon, stroll into our very own maid café where you can have your choice of cake along with coffee/test whilst being served by your lovely waiters/waitresses in cosplay. Closing Ceremony Sadly, all good things must come to an end. We have a quick ceremony to wrap up the con followed by our final charity appeal but don’t pack your bags and leave just yet cause there’s the... Kotatsu Lounge!!! The Kotatsu Lounge is wonderful space to crash, chat, meet new people, party away those post con blues and generally just wind down. Games will be laid for you as you tuck those feet under the warm tables fending off the cold spring night air. Retro-oke Relive your childhood by singing your heart out to those good old 80s cartoon hits at the retro-oke! Gear up for those massive group sing-alongs of Mysterious Cities of Gold, best enjoyed with a beer in your hand. Special Thanks for Merchandise Artwork and Production... We have had a tremendous contribution of artwork and effort for merchandise and registration pack items this year and would like to say a special thank you to the following people: Genki Gear for managing our T-shirt production Liara K Crane for Badge design Nicola Yau for T-shirt design Sash for Badge production And finally our resident artist Phil Laskey for pin badge design, conbag designs, website artwork along with other countless pieces that will appear at the con... Thank you to everybody who contributed material to the con book! Finally, thanks in advance to the many events organisers and helpers this year!
