Punctuation Have I used – Full stops at the end of a sentence? Commas to show a ‘pause’ in a sentence? Speech marks when someone is talking? A question mark when there is a question? An exclamation mark to make a sentence stand out? Avoid basic mistakes! There – ‘It is over there’ (location) Their – ‘That is their house’ (belonging) They’re – ‘They’re going to a party’ (they are) Was – single ‘I was’ Were – plural – they were Verb An action word Noun An object word Connective A linking word Adjective A describing word Make your writing more interesting!!! Similes – comparing two things using ‘as’ or like’ – e.g. ‘Her jumper was as blue as the ocean’ Metaphors – comparing two things using ‘is’ or ‘are’ – e.g. ‘The classroom is a zoo’ Alliteration – using several words close together that begin with the same letter Personification – giving a non-human object human qualities Adverbs – words that describe how a verb is done – e.g. ‘quickly’ ‘carefully’
