Rumours are rife of witchcraft and devilry being practiced in secret by the villagers. News of it has reached The Inquisitor and he is raging with a righteous fury. He has decided to descend upon the villages by surprise to unmask the witches by interrogation and bring fiery, divine justice to the sinners with the cleansing flames of the pyre. Components • 1 Inquisitor dice (The die is The Inquisitor). • 18 Gold coins. (head) (tail) • 18 innocence counters. Setting up: At the start of the game each player is given three innocence counters and three golden coins with the heads facing up. Game rules: To identify the first player to be interrogated, the Inqvisitor dice must be placed over the table ensuring the side with the is facing upwards. The dice must be spunonce clockwise (see Figure 1). The first player to face interrogation will be the player pointed to by the index finger. Figure 1. The player being interrogated must throw the Inqvisitor dice. The dice determines the destiny of the player thusly: The Inquisitor allows the player to leave but the player is still under suspicion of witchcraft. The player loses one innocence counter. The next player on the left continues to play by throwing the dice. The player can accuse another player by setting the dice with the pointing at the chosen player. The chosen player loses one innocence counter and will then throw the dice. If the player has no innocence counters left then he or she will go to the pyre and stop playing, not being able to buy Indulgences. The player shows that he or she is pious and holy and will then recover all the innocence counters (up to a maximum of three ). The next player on the left continues to play by throwing the dice. The player refuses to confess and will not repent. The player is sent to the pyre and will stop playing. The next player on the left will continue playing. If the player has been interrogated by means of another player’s , the player who made the accusation gains one innocence counter. The player is tortured until the inquisitor accepts the player’s confession. The player loses one innocence counter and throws the dice again. The player will not be able to use the action “To Expose”. The Inquisitor will send a player to the pyre whenever the player loses all of his or her innocence counters. Players can spend coins per turn as follows: • Donation: As many coins as required can be played as innocence counters by turning the crucifix (on the coin’s tail) facing upwards. The player must turn the coins before throwing the dice whilst being interrogated. These coins won’t work as coins any more. • Indulgence: Players can use gold coins to buy an indulgence to avoid being sent to the pyre by paying for his or her sins at the purgatory. • To Expose: When the current player is going to be interrogated, before throwing the dice, the player can expose another player to be interrogated instead by expending one gold coin. This accusation doesn’t have an innocence cost for the target player, as opposed to the accusation. The player can carry out as many actions as desired. The last Villager alive wins the game.
