I worked as a goldsmith and
silversmith, making fine items from
gold and silver. I also made church
bells from copper. Some of my
church bells still ring in churches
today.
Perhaps I could be called the
“Marvelous Messenger,” “Competent
Courier,” or “Heroic Horseman.” Some
of my most important work occurred
when I was hired by the Boston
Committee of Correspondence and
the Massachusetts Committee of
Safety. I rode a horse from my home
in Boston to such places as New York
and Philadelphia to deliver messages.

On April 18, 1775, my
employer instructed me to ride
to Lexington, Massachusetts to
warn two men that British
troops were planning to arrest
them. I warned colonists all
along the way to Lexington that
the British army planned to
attack. I successfully warned
the two men.
I did a wide variety of work in
my life, including dentistry. I
cleaned people’s teeth and
provided them with false teeth.
I made the false teeth from
walrus ivory (walrus teeth) and
teeth from other animals!
