The Heritage Skills Centre at Lincoln Castle needs enthusiastic and personable volunteers to assist in the interpretation of the work we do for visitors to
the site. Specialist heritage and conservation skills have long been identified
as being at risk of disappearing from today's workforce and our vision is not
only to communicate this message to as many of our visitors as possible but
also crucially to train professionals in these precious heritage skills. We also
work closely with traditional craftspeople to raise awareness and provide
training in disciplines such as Silversmithing, Leatherwork, Stained Glass
and Pyrography - crafts that have been part of our culture for hundreds of
years and are still relevant and interesting today. You will be responsible
for • Welcoming visitors to the HSC and explaining the ethos of the role we
play in the sector. Raising awareness of the built historic environment and
why it is so important to use traditional and appropriate building skills to
maintain and safeguard our historic building stock. • Using displays and audio visual media to engage visitors on past and present projects and signposting them to ways they can get involved either by booking onto one of
our courses or by volunteering. • From time to time assist visitors and course
delegates in providing feedback on their experience and being a champion of
the HSC. • Facilitating interaction where appropriate with visitors and
craftspeople on open days. Demonstrating crafts and engaging visitors with
activities • Assist our team with keeping the front of house areas clean and
tidy at all times. • Help set up workrooms for courses and events as needed
including keeping track of material stocks, refreshments and other equipment. Making staff aware if something is running out. • Assisting staff with
selling of HSC products and merchandise including cash handling, till reconciliation and monitoring the security of monies and stock. • Supporting
the Heritage Skills Centre team as required with administration and record
keeping. This would include updating spreadsheets with course details, filing, proofreading, small research projects, recording volunteer activity and
hours accumulation and other reasonable administrative needs of the Heritage Skills Centre.
