Camels are calm creatures. When treated kindly, they work hard and travel very long distances across the deserts. They know exactly how heavy their loads should be and refuse to move if they are over-loaded. The camel can live for several days without drinking or eating. The hump is a food reserve and contains fat. This food reserve is used up in the dry season when there is little vegetation to eat. Bactrian camels have two humps. The camel is the most important animal of the nomads. There are two kinds of camels. The dromedary is found in 'Arabia, India and North Africa.
