On Thursday November 12th,
George Washington Middle
School held it’s annual Veteran’s Day Ceremony. May I just
say that this was one of my
favorite assemblies that I have
ever been to at George Washington. It all started with the
veterans walking in in a line
across the auditorium as everyone gave them a huge round of
applause. We said the Pledge of
Allegiance not long after Mr.
Leonard said his opening
speech. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Mr.
Willbergh who is a veteran
but is also an incredible Social
Studies teacher here at our
school. The chorus then sang
the National Anthem and the
band played many songs
throughout this event, either
alone or along with the chorus.

Have you recently
noticed green lights in your
neighborhood? Green Light
A Vet is a national initiative
to show civilian appreciation towards veterans.
Sometimes, it is hard to tell
that someone is a veteran
when they’re not wearing
their uniform. Even though
we may not recognize veter-
ans individually, they can
recognize our support when
they see green lights on
porches of houses in their
neighborhoods. The color
green symbolizes hope and
moving forward on with
their lives. This project
strives to recognize veterans
every other day of the year
besides veterans day. To join
the movement, all you have
to do is change one light to
green and share it with the
hashtag #greenlightavet. For

America’s veterans today.

The Halloween Canteen
By: Jennifer Cook
As you all know already we had a Halloween canteen, we had some strange
costumes...two people with the same EMOJI costume...
That was pretty good but, compared to the
amazing 6 grade smurf costumes, it was no
contest. There was a lot of fun games like
knocking down the cans, and flipping bowling
pins over with little pucks.
There was also cotton candy pizza, and drinks.
At the canteen there was lots of dancing and
talking and don't forget the singing.
I think all of us know how fun it was and can't
wait for the next one!

The Tricky Turkey
An Original Story by Grace Sendak
Pudgie Featherbrain showed up on Mr. Lambert’s doorstep looking for a gullible human. “Ding Dong!”
Herbert Lambert answered and exclaimed, “Margaret, come here it’s a Thanksgiving miracle!”
Margaret answered “What now Herbert!”
Pudgie gulped and said, “Wrong house!”
Herbert picked him up and acted as if he didn’t say anything. He carried him over to a square box that
radiated heat and said, “Get in.”
A plump looking lady came over and squealed with delight. Pudgie put on a concerned face
and said, “You shouldn’t put me in like this. I’m probably filthy from being in the field all day.”
Margaret nodded her head as if considering the idea, and after a moment of silence, she went and got
a basin. When Margaret finally got the turkey into the basin she was leaning on the chair like it was a lifesaver, and regretting
that she didn’t just shove the turkey in the oven. A few moments later Herbert scooped Pudgie out of the basin and said once
more, “Get in” as he pointed to the oven.
Pudgie hesitated and said, “Well... My talons are frightfully long and they should be clipped if you want a good meal.”
The man sighed and got out his wife's nail clipper. Now, if you have ever tried to clip a turkey’s toenails then you would have understood the struggle that went on in the house. An hour later the man stood panting like a dog on a hot summer day and
was feeling the same regret his wife had felt. After catching his breath, the man had clenched his fists and started screaming,
“GET IN THE OVEN!”.
Pudgie sighed and said “ If I must, but I would be a lot tastier if you stuffed me.” Herbert was at the point where he
just wanted something to eat for Thanksgiving, and was desperate for the turkey to just get into the oven. Finally, Herbert reluctantly walked into the kitchen to get some food for the turkey. Margaret presented a pureed feast before Pudgie. Pudgie, after
eating more than his share, was content. The exhausted couple lay at the kitchen table sleeping. Pudgie stepped out of the house
wondering who he could trick next.

Counselors’ Corner
To recognize the Week of Respect and
School Anti-Violence Week [October 5
-9 and October 19-23], the staff, under
the leadership of the school counselors,
chose to celebrate the school’s initiative
to promote respectful relations by creating the theme, “Have courage; be
kind.” During these weeks, the
schools was decorated with flags that
represent George Washington’s Pillars
of Character, and counselors instructed lessons on how courage and kindness support the anti-bullying atmosphere at George Washington Middle
School. Students were also engaged
in week-long activities that called for
them to pledge to commit to an act of
kindness. In addition, each morning
began with quotes that supported the
theme of kindness and the Pillars of
Character of George Washington
Middle School.
Also, students were
asked to show their spirit each day by
wearing articles of clothing symbolizing
their devotion to kindness and antibullying [i.e., Wear a hat/cap: “Keep
a CAP on conflict,” Wear Sweats:
“ It’s no SWEAT to show respect,”
Wear Crazy socks: “SOCK it to bullying!”, etc.]

Eagles
By Nathaniel Simon
Well folks it's one of
those dry spells in gaming in
which there aren't a lot of good
titles out yet, so I decided to review an old favorite of mine: Professor Layton. The Professor
Layton series is all about puzzles
and brain teasers, which by the
way are some of the hardest
things I have ever tried to solve.
Granted a lot of them are trick
questions or have a “too obvious”
answer to them. Well to tell you
the truth it's a puzzle game there
isn't much else to it but puzzles.
But hey the real plus of the game
is the plot and the cast of puzzle
obsessed characters.
The game usually starts
out with an animated scene in the
game's beautiful art style, which
gives exposition on the Mcguffin
you're trying to collect in the
game and which the game's plot
is based around, and usually is
taken in the form of a letter to the
main character: Professor Layton. He is kind of a mix of Sher-
lock Holmes and Indiana Jones,
the latter half of which is only
because of his profession as a
professor in archeology in a college whom also goes on adventures with a quirky sidekick.
After said expositional
cutscene plays you are introduced to the main characters
you will get to know throughout
the story. The story is usually a
mystery with as many twists and
turns as you would expect from
a Holmsen plot in layman's
terms a lot. Although there are
some bad bits to the game I
mean the puzzles are at times
cryptic at best and sometimes I
needed to look them up on the
internet or use the hint system
and if you fail a puzzle you lose
points for that specific puzzle.
Depending on how many you
have by the end of the game you
get certain rewards like a sound
test or concept art or a puzzle
gallery.
The game also require you to play every single
game in the series as there
are recurring characters
whom you wont know unless
you played them in order or
you might miss crucial backstory of a character. The
game is pretty good overall.
Except for one thing the mini
game- the mini game is sort
of a game within a game with
each game having a different
one, some are cute and fun
and have their own little
charm while some are just
distracting from the main
game—like one that is huge
and takes hours to complete
not because of its difficulty
but because of its addictiveness. But they are fun overall
if you're there for the story
you get distracted from it.
I give this a 7/10, or,
average.
