Hello Narwhals! Today is Wednesday, February 25th. It is F Day on your schedule. Here are today’s announcements: Today’s Black History Month Moment is dedicated to a man who invented two life saving devices. Garrett Morgan, born in 1877 in Kentucky, created patents for early versions of the traffic light and the gas mask. In 1914, Morgan’s "safety hood," provided its wearers with a better breathing experience in the presence of smoke, gases and other pollutants. Initially, sales were slow, but a many years later, his model became the prototype for the gas masks used during World War I, to protect soldiers from toxic gas used in warfare. Then, in 1923, he created a new kind of traffic signal. After witnessing a car accident at a busy city street intersection, he designed a multiple direction warning light. It had sections that moved up and down to alert drivers that they would need to stop. Morgan acquired patents for his traffic signal in the United States, England and Canada. Eventually, he sold the rights this design to General Electric for $40,000. The short video below tells the story of Garrett Morgan and his life altering invention. http://youtu.be/t0FYmvJMr8Q The French Club picture scheduled for today is canceled and will be rescheduled.
