Quartet of events highlight
Weights and Measures Week
Auditor’s office will showcase impact of inspectors through Monday, March 7
COLUMBUS, Ohio (March 1, 2016) – Franklin County Auditor Clarence Mingo today
announced that this week’s National Weights and Measures Week will feature four events
throughout central Ohio highlighting the work of his office’s weights and measures inspectors.
The goal of Weights and Measures Week is to build awareness among consumers and businesses
of their role in commerce and to recognize the important community service performed by the
Franklin County Auditor’s Office. The celebration begins nationwide today.
“Our weights and measures inspectors work to protect Franklin County’s economy and system of
commerce for both consumers and merchants,” Mingo said. “Everyone has a direct financial
stake in knowing all transactions are fair.”
Inspectors will begin checks at every gas station in the county for credit card skimmers
tomorrow at 11 a.m. in Grove City. They will share those experiences at a joint event on
skimmers Thursday at 1 p.m. with other county auditors at the Athens County Library.
Weights and Measures Week comes to close on Monday, March 7 with a pair of events in
Dublin. The weights and measures inspectors will have an interactive presentation at 11 a.m.
with students at Olde Sawmill Elementary and will then take part in a 2 p.m. event at the Kroger
Marketplace, 7625 Sawmill Rd.
These events highlight how government and consumers work together to maintain fairness and
keep the marketplace in balance.
The date of National Weights and Measures Week is significant. President John Adams signed
the first weights and measure law into effect on March 2, 1799.
Every year, officials from the Franklin County Auditor’s Office make around 11,500 inspections
throughout the county.
