The word ‘service’ literally means an act of homage. When a person does an act of service, he or she performs an act of homage to God and to neighbor and he or she grows in respect for self. Recipients of the Dominican Scholarship are required to serve as mentors in the Fourth Pillar Program. The role of mentors is to guide their peers in the program in four ways: by introducing service as a way of life, deepening their commitment to serve, equipping them with confidence in service, and challenging them to establish a unique legacy of service as a participant in the program.
