John Deere continues to deliver
When John Deere, a blacksmith from Rutland, Vermont invented the first commercially
successful, self-cleaning steel plough during 1837, he also forged the beginning of Deere
& Company, which has grown to become the world’s leading manufacturer and distributor
of agricultural and turf care equipment.
Today, the multinational corporation operates
manufacturing facilities and marketing branches in several
countries and carries out business in more than 160
countries, employing more than 50,000 people worldwide.
Michael Park
MANAGING DIRECTOR
Following the global recession of the 1980s, many key industries including agriculture,
were hard-hit. During this time, Deere & Company became the only major agricultural
equipment manufacturer to survive the crisis and remain independent. The company’s
ability to weather the recession and gain market share soon gave them the financial
strength to venture into new territories including Australia and New Zealand.
During 1986, Deere & Company entered into a joint venture with Chamberlain
Industries, a manufacturer and marketer of agricultural tractors and implements in
Perth, Western Australia, which later became a fully owned subsidiary now recognised as
John Deere Limited.
Since the take over, John Deere Limited, together with the support of a growing dealer
network, has continued to expand its products and services into new markets in Australia
and New Zealand including agriculture, turf care, power systems and credit.

Agricultural and turf care equipment
John Deere offer a full line of tractors, combines, seeding and
sowing equipment, hay and forage equipment, cotton pickers and
strippers, sprayers, land levelling tools and precision agriculture
solutions to suit a broad range of farming applications in Australia
and New Zealand.
The company also produces and distributes the largest range of
lawn and garden tractors, mowers and other outdoor power
products for homeowners and commercial users. Major products
include zero-turn mowers, utility vehicles, compact utility tractors
and ride-on mowers.
Power systems
John Deere Power Systems fabricate and supply a range of
proven off-highway, heavy-duty diesel engines to original
equipment manufacturer markets in the agricultural, industrial
and marine sectors.
Credit
John Deere Credit provides competitively priced finance options
to customers interested in leasing or purchasing new or used
equipment through John Deere dealerships. Their products offer
flexible term, deposit and repayment structures to match the cash
flow requirements of any agriculture, turf care or power systems
customer. Products include secured commercial loans and hire
purchases; finance leases; operating leases and consumer loans.
Distribution
John Deere’s Australia and New Zealand Distribution Centre
(ANZDC) plays an integral part in the company’s distribution of
parts and complete goods. It has the primary role of supporting
John Deere’s extensive network of agricultural, turf care
equipment and power systems dealers, across Australia and New
Zealand, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. These dealers in turn
support customers who are as diverse as operators of a ride on
mower through to a combine harvester or a commercial
fishing trawler.
John Deere’s global parts system, JD Point, also provides
dealers with access to parts any where, any time, from any John
Deere dealer in the country or John Deere Distribution Centre in
the world.
Dealers
The company has one of the most widespread and well–trained
dealer networks in the world with about 200 independent John
Deere dealers across Australia and New Zealand. Through
seminars, workshops, extensive communication and diagnostic
system training, John Deere’s service technicians are trained in
both the theory and practice of their machines and equipment to
ensure customer’s needs are always at the forefront.
John Deere’s Dealer Technical Assistance Centre (DTAC) also
provides back–up support to dealers by giving them access to a
list of identified service issues and solutions so the right answers
are always at their fingertips.
Technology
John Deere places particular emphasis on integrating
tomorrow’s technology with today’s products. The company has a
dedicated group called Technology Services that focuses on a
wide range of leading-edge electronics and information systems
for vehicle communication and global positioning as well as
providing information-technology products and services to John
Deere dealers.
Company vision
John Deere’s values — integrity, quality, commitment and
innovation — can be traced back to the company’s founder,
John Deere.
During his lifetime, no report on the
progress of his plough works was
without accolades for his personal and
professional integrity.
Throughout the company’s 170-year history, the values
John Deere lived by have been fundamental guides and measures
in every aspect of the company’s operations and an explicit part of
its strategy. John Deere employees have always understood that
while business results are critical, how results are achieved are as
important as the results themselves. After all, it was John Deere
himself that said, “I will never put my name on a plough that does
not have in it the best that is in me.”— so customers can learn
from yesterday, accomplish more from today, and prepare their
business for tomorrow.
