Lesson Plan #6: Second Continental Congress and Declaration of Independence Topic: Students will be introduced to the Second Continental Congress. The students will learn about its important members and how they developed the fundamental principles in the Declaration of Independence. Notebooks or paper, a writing utensil, and textbook The teacher will need to bring: 1. Notes Instructional Steps: 1. At the beginning of class, I will inform the students that we will be discussing the establishments of the Second Continental Congress and the Declaration of Independence. 2. The students will take notes about the important figures within the Second Continental Congress and what they did. 3. The students will then form into groups for four. The students will get to select their own groups, but if they begin to get off task they will work alone. The groups are going to be assigned to read and analyze the Declaration of Independence. They will be given a set of questions that they will answer after they read the document. The assignment will be collected at the end of the class period.
