Understanding Bradford District City of Bradford Metropolitan District Council 23 June 2016 Intelligence Alert Bradford District population update At a glance: The latest population estimate (for 30 June 2015) shows that there are 531,200 people living in Bradford District This is an increase of 3,000 people since June 2014 The population consists of 261,850 men (49%) and 269,350 women (51%) Bradford is the fourth largest local authority in England in terms of population (after Birmingham, Leeds and Sheffield). Manchester is the fifth largest local authority. Population change 2014-2015 The District’s population has increased by 3,000 (0.6%) since 2014. More than one quarter (29%) is aged less than 20 and nearly seven in ten people are aged less than 50. Bradford has the third highest percentage (23.6%) of the under 16 population in England after the London Borough of Barking & Dagenham and Slough Borough Council. Continued over Population change 2005-2015 The District’s population has increased by 39,800 (8.1%) since 2005. Since 2005 the rate of population growth has fluctuated from around 1% each year until 2011 to 0.3% between 2012 and 2014. In the last year the population has increased by 0.6%. Population by gender and five year age groups The population pyramid opposite shows the large population numbers of children under the age of 10 and the population boom of the 1980s.
