15.2 NOTES What are natural resources? Objective: Distinguish between renewable and nonrenewable resources Earth supplies everything that living things need to survive. Materials from the earth that are used by living things are called natural resources. Natural resources that can be reused or replaced are called renewable resources. Air, water, soil, and living things are renewable resources. Nonrenewable resources are not easily replaced by nature or human effort. They can take millions of years to form. Once they are used up, they are basically gone forever. Some examples of nonrenewable resources are oil, coal, and natural gas. The wise use of natural resources is called conservation. People must learn how to use natural resources wisely to help them last longer.
