ART SUPPLIES:
One 16 x 20 or 12 x 16 portrait grade canvas or panel.
For Drawing: A roll or pad of clear acetate (.003 or .005 thickness marketed under the name of
Clear lay). Set of chalk pastel pencils (available at Jerry’s), 1 6B Charcoal pencil, 3 extra fine
Sharpie pens in red, blue,& black.. Kneaded eraser (soft gray one), can of workable fixative
spray, 1 stump, yardstick, long ruler and a transparent triangle (12 or 14“)
Brushes:
Filbert Hog Bristle, 0, 1, 4, 6, 8, (Stiff White Bristles) Silver or Robert Simmons are good.
Round Sable or Synthetic soft bristle # 002, 4, 6 Script liner brush, and a 1” soft bristle brush
for blending.
(These are suggested, but you may also bring others you have.)
For Under painting: 2 palette knives (not the plastic), Mars Black (or Lamp Black), Chromium
Oxide Green, Titanium White. Water soluble medium – fast drying.
For Color Palette,: Titanium white, Ivory Black, Zinc Yellow (or Lemon Yellow), Cadmium
Yellow Light Hue, Phathalo Blue, Raw Umber, Burnt Umber, Burnt Sienna, Raw Sienna,
Yellow Ochre, Cadmium Red Light Hue, Alizarin Crimson, French Ultramarine Blue,
Cadmium Orange Hue.
Easel
Disposable paper palette or you may use some of the plastic table cover listed below. (A
special 10-value palette used for mixing the under-painting and flesh palettes will be furnished
by Instructor for use during class.)
Jar for washing brushes
Large roll of paper towels or rags. (Please don’t use the paper towels furnished for hand
washing by the school), masking tape, roll of cling wrap or “press n’ seal”.
For saving your palette, you will need 1 yard of plastic table cover from Jo Ann’s Fabric or any
Wal-Mart that has a Fabric Section. (This item is very important.)

22”x 30” (300lb) water media paper (acid free) or Heavy Duty Crescent
water media board canvas 22 x 30 or larger. You may gesso the paper
or board if you wish. If you do, the paint will sit on top of the support
and will not be absorbed, either way works. If you chose to paint on
canvas, make it a minimum of 20x24.
Primary colors, and white and black paint with any additional colors
you wish to have available. Medium (glass and/or matte, your
preference).
Gesso
Acrylic retarder for slowing the drying time for the paint. Permits longer
paint manipulation, easier mixing of colors and facilitates the blurring of
edges.
Spray bottle for spritzing and spattering
Acrylic palette that allows you to extend the time the paint will stay wet
and usable

Miscellaneous: Variations on the traditional pointed brush are very useful and
stimulating for abstract work. Bamboo sticks cut to a shape like a pen,
match sticks, feathers, worn out brushes, cut up credit cards for
scraping, rollers, spatulas, scrapers, putty knives, sand, marble dust,
Q-Tips and anything else you can think of or have used in the past to
create texture. And of course RAGS and SPONGES
