The Monthly Newsletter for Cranbury Families
Kristin Goldstein, Principal
Dear Cranbury Families,
It is difficult to believe that it is already April. The year is flying by, but we
still have a tremendous amount to accomplish before the year is over. During the
months of April and May, our 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students will be taking their
standardized state tests. It is important for students to get a good night’s sleep
and a healthy breakfast. The schedule is as follows:
Grade 3 – SBAC - April 19. 20, 24 & 25
Grade 4 – SBAC - April 24, 25, 26 & 27
Grade 5 – Science CMT-April 4th, SBAC-April 24 & 25, May 1 & 2
This year, the district has decided to hold a STEM Expo in lieu of a Science Fair.
Therefore, students will not be asked to complete science projects at home.
Instead, all 4th and 5th grade students will complete a STEM project with their
class. Several of our K-3 students will also be participating in the Expo by
participating in a smaller STEM project in school. More details to follow!
Reminder:
Our parking lot continues to be a challenge during morning drop-off and
afternoon dismissal. Please make sure that you are following all of our safety
procedures during these very busy times of day. If you are dropping your child
off for school in the morning, you must either park your car in a designated
parking space and walk your child to the sidewalk, or use the drop-off circle
where our teachers and safeties are ready to assist you. You may not drop your
child off in the main lot and allow them to walk through the parking lot
unattended. During afternoon pick-up you must also park in a designated parking
space. Several cars are parking along curbs, in the circle, or in the entrance to
the school. This is dangerous and impedes the flow of traffic. Our goal is to
ensure the safety of each and every child. To do so, I am asking for your
cooperation. I realize that students may have afterschool activities, but it is
important that they can arrive there safely! Our general dismissal is at 3:25. If
your child has a doctor’s appointment and needs to leave early, I ask that you
send in a note to your child’s teacher, and that you plan to pick up prior to 3:10.
However, the number of late arrivals and early dismissals is growing

exponentially. It is disruptive to your child’s learning and the instruction that is
taking place in the classroom. Therefore, I ask that you attempt to schedule
appointments that will limit the time you need to pull your child out of school.
Warmest regards,
Kristin Goldstein

Just drag and drop pictures to one of the folders
(“FirstDayOfSchool,” “Halloween,” “Classroom Pictures,” “Polar
Express 2016,” etc.). Please try to put your child’s name or
classroom in the filename.
Don’t want to try that? You can always save pictures to a disc

(however, this method could affect quality of the pictures making
them unusable)
Note: While we will accept any pictures that you have taken,
pictures taken with cell phones are usually not high enough
quality to be used in the yearbook.

Sportsmanship
If you're into sports, you've seen it happen. You've probably even experienced it:
Football players shaking hands after four quarters of knocking each other around.
Tennis players leaping over the net to shake hands with their opponents after a hardfought match. Soccer players exchanging jerseys after an intense 90 minutes. Even
boxers touching gloves at the beginning of each round, then hugging each other after
beating each other into a pulp for 12 rounds.
It seems like competitors in every event, from spelling bees to hockey, behave this
way. What's going on?
It's all part of sportsmanship, a great tradition in sports and competition that means
playing clean and handling both victory and defeat with grace, style, and dignity.
What Is Sportsmanship?
Sportsmanship is defined as:
playing fair
following the rules of the game
respecting the judgment of referees and officials
treating opponents with respect
Some people define good sportsmanship as the "golden rule" of sports — in other
words, treating the people you play with and against as you'd like to be treated
yourself. You demonstrate good sportsmanship when you show respect for yourself,
your teammates, and your opponents, for the coaches on both sides, and for the
referees, judges, and other officials.
But sportsmanship isn't just reserved for the people on the field. Cheerleaders, fans,
and parents also need to be aware of how they behave during competition.
Sportsmanship is a style and an attitude, and it can have a positive influence on
everyone around you.
Fair and Fun
Good sportsmanship means not having a "win at any cost" attitude. Most athletes who
don't have a "win at any cost" attitude are more likely to talk about how much they
love their sport and how much personal satisfaction and enjoyment they get from
participation.
Most people won't go on to play professional sports, and only a few will win
scholarships to play at college. But many forget to have a good time during the years
they do play because they're so focused on winning.
And, unfortunately, parents and coaches sometimes put too much pressure on
athletes, emphasizing winning at all costs. So although it's great to be a champion, it's
even better to have enjoyed the process of trying to reach the top. It's best to play fair
while having fun.

Sportsmanship Off the Field
Learning good sportsmanship means finding that the positive attitude learned on the
field carries over into other areas of life. At school, for example, you're able to
appreciate the contributions made by classmates and know how to work as part of a
team to complete a project. You may enjoy more success at work as well, because a
big part of learning good sportsmanship is learning to be respectful of others, including
customers and coworkers.
Attention Sound Tigers Fans! With over 260 Cranbury family
members attending the game on Feb. 25, it would be an
understatement to suggest that we had a great time. This
year, Luke Magnone was the raffle winner of the Zamboni ride
and he waved to the crowd like a celebrity. The raffle raised
$235 dollars, which will go towards a new electric pump and
new pinnies for the gym. Thank you everyone who came out to
the game and showed some Cranbury Pride!
