GRADE 2-5 GOD’S COVENANT WITH PEOPLE God created the world and people to bring Him glory. “I will establish my covenant as an everlasting covenant between me and you and your descendants after you for the generations to come, to be your God and the God of your descendants after you.” Genesis 17:7 WEEK 1: 9th MARCH GOD’S COVENANT WITH ABRAHAM Genesis 12:2-3, 15:1-21, 17:1-9 Big Picture Question for kids: Why did God choose Abraham? Big Picture Answer for Kids: God chose Abraham to be part of His covenant plan to send Jesus to earth to bring us salvation. Christ Connection: God chose Abraham to be the father of the nation in which Jesus would be born. In this way, Abraham would bless all nations, as God had promised. God also saw Abraham’s faith in God’s promises and counted it as righteousness. It is our faith in Jesus’ perfect righteousness that brings salvation to God’s people. Family Activity: As a family draw your own family tree, include brothers, sisters, parents, aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents, and great grand parents. See how far back in history you can trace your family line. Once you’ve completed your family tree spend some time thanking God for your whole family. WEEK 2: 16th MARCH THE SONS OF ABRAHAM Genesis 16:1-16, 17:15-22, 21:1-7 Big Picture Question: Who always keeps His covenant? Big Picture Answer for Kids: God is always faithful to keep His covenant, people should always trust God. Christ Connection: God fulfilled His promise to Abraham by giving him a son. Isaac was the hope of Abraham and Sarah for a future and a legacy. God fulfilled His promise to the world by giving us His Son. Jesus ultimately fulfilled God’s promise to Abraham, and He is the hope of the world for salvation and redemption. Family Activity: Clothesline statements Cut a piece of paper into long strips. On one side of the strip write down why you think God always follows through with what He says He will do. e.g. God loves us, God always tells the truth, God is faithful, God knows the future. On the other side of each strip write down how sometimes people do the opposite, e.g. People sometimes reject us, sometimes people lie etc. Share some examples of when people have let you down and how it made you feel. Pray together that you will remember God’s promises and trust in His plans for your life. WEEK 3: 23 MARCH GOD TESTED ABRAHAM Genesis 22:1-19 Big Picture Question for Kids: How can we show we believe God’s plan? Big Picture Answer for Kids: We obey God even when He asks us to do things we don’t understand. rd Christ Connection: Abraham showed his faith in God when he was willing to sacrifice Isaac. Isaac also showed he was ready to do what his father said. This is a clear picture of God who was willing to sacrifice His only Son and of Jesus who was willing to do what was necessary for God’s plan for salvation. Isaac’s life was spared because God provided a substitute. We needed a perfect sacrifice as our substitute for sin. God provided a perfect sacrifice in His Son, Jesus Christ. Family Prayer: Aren’t you glad that God’s plan was to send Jesus so that we could be saved from our sin? Sometimes it’s hard to understand God’s plan. We don’t see the big picture. Parents share stories with your kids about a time God asked you to do something and you didn’t know how it would it all work out. How did it make you feel? Spend some time praying asking God to help each of you to obey God 100% and trust in His plans for your life. PARENT CUE MARCH Age 2 - 7 SMALL TALK MEMORY VERSE “The crowds were amazed at his teachings.” Matthew 7:28, NIV KEY QUESTION Who came to do amazing things? BASIC TRUTH Jesus Wants to Be My Friend Forever BOTTOM LINE Jesus came to do AMAZING things. WEEK 1: 2ND MARCH LUKE 2:41-50 Jesus teaches in the temple at 12 years old and amazes the people. WEEK 2: 9TH MARCH MARK 1:1-11 Jesus lets John baptize Him to show everyone how much He loves God. WEEK 3: 16TH MARCH JOHN 2:1-11 Jesus miraculously turns water into wine. WEEK 4: 23RD MARCH THE GOSPELS Jesus chooses 12 men to become His disciples and share in the amazing things He did. WEEK 5: 30TH MARCH MATTHEW 6:5-11 Jesus teaches us how to pray. PARENT CUE MARCH Age 2 - 7 PLAY TIME Play “school” with your child. Gather some paper, pencils, books, and crayons . . . whatever school supplies you may have. Let him be the teacher as you play together. Review letters, numbers and colors. Let him “read” a book to you. Talk about how Jesus really was a teacher when He was only 12 years old. That’s AMAZING! CAR TIME Jesus did a lot of AMAZING things when He was on earth. The MOST amazing was making a way for us to be with God forever. God loves us and wants to hear from us... anytime, anywhere, about anything. As you and your child are driving, take time to talk to God. You can talk to Him before you drive away, before you go in a store, when you see an ambulance go by, when you see His amazing creation out of the window, etc. Look for things you and your child can talk to God about. He’s always listening and will love to hear from you! BATH TIME Take some empty plastic containers to bath time. Let your child fill them with water and pour them out as you bathe him. Talk about how Jesus told the people to fill the jars with water when the wedding party ran out of super fancy party drink. Then Jesus did something AMAZING! He turned the plain old water into super fancy party drink! PARENT TIME Jesus came to do AMAZING things! That’s what we want our preschoolers to know this month. Not only do we want them to know about Jesus and the amazing things He did, we want them to be able to share about Him with their friends and family. We all know that just talking about Jesus to everyone we meet doesn’t help others know Him better. However, when we are in relationships with people, they are more likely to listen when we discuss the awesomeness of our Savior. Relationships are key to spreading the love of Jesus. We can help our preschoolers learn one of the foundations of relationships as early as birth. When preschoolers learn to tell the truth and expect to hear the truth, they are developing a virtue that will help them their entire lives. When we are truthful with one another, relationships can grow. To hear more about honesty keeping relationships authentic, visit Parent CUE Live at www.OrangeParents.org. CUDDLE TIME Cuddle up with your child and pray. “Dear God, thank You for [name of child] and for all of his special friends. I am so thankful he has such good friends. And thank you for His MOST special friend, Jesus. I am so glad Jesus wants to be his friend forever. We love You, God. In Jesus name, amen.”
