WEDDING CAKES BY SHELLEY’S CAKES Choosing your perfect wedding cake can be a daunting prospect. We are here to help make that process as easy and enjoyable for you as we can. When you are choosing your cake, you should consider the following: PORTIONS o How many guests are you catering for? Are you going to offer finger portions, or dessert size portions, and are you going to cater for guests at your wedding breakfast only, or do you want to serve cake to your evening guests also. FLAVOURS o Do you want to go for a traditional fruit cake? Or are you more of a chocoholic? Would you prefer to serve something fresher such as a madiera sponge with jam & buttercream filling, or a lemon sponge with a lemon curd and buttercream filling, do you think you are adventurous enough to try a carrot cake or a red velvet cake with a vanilla frosting. DESIGN FEATURES o Are you following a theme through the wedding, such as particular flowers or colours or do you have butterflies or hearts in mind or do you love sparkle and bling. Is your theme modern and chic, or vintage and floral? Think about where your reception is being held, as this will often lend itself towards designing the perfect cake. CAKE SIZE o This can be based on a number of factors. First being the number of portions needed, second the overall look you want to achieve, some designs are only suitable for a two tier cake and may look wrong as three or more tiers. Other designs look perfect as a three or four tier cake, but would look strange as a two tier or single tier cake. In both cases either a variation on design may be necessary, or possibly adapting designs with dummy tiers could be an option. Your venue may also lend itself to a larger or smaller cake design. PRICE o Be realistic when setting a budget for your cake. Our cakes are not mass produced. You are ordering a bespoke cake, made to your specifications, by professionals who have taken into account all the details you want to include to make your cake unique to you. All elements of your cake will reflect in the price, from hand piped detail to handmade sugar flowers and caricatures.
