Season’s Greetings!
Leer from the Execuve Director
Christmas Wishes
I’d like to share with you my two Christmas wishes this year.
Wish #1
That all of our member retailers and restaurants have a successful holiday season. You can help make that wish come true by
supporng each other. Enclosed is the Chamber’s annual Holiday Flyer promong specials offered by Chamber members.
Instead of shopping online or at a big mall, consider going down
the street and keeping your money in your community by shopping at businesses in your own neighborhood. Or think outside
of the box and give gi, cerficates for services provided by our
members. For gi, ideas, visit www.RockyRiverChamber.com
and click on the Shopping Guide or Dining Guide to see a list of
members who would truly appreciate your holiday business.
Wish #2
That our annual Christmas party on December 4 is the merriest
ever! I’d like to invite you, your staff and your guests to join us
for a very fesve celebraon. Last year over 170 people aended, the more the merrier! The cheer begins at 6:00 p.m. at the
Don Umerley Civic Center.
Ashley Gay of Panera Bread, and Rick Joyce of Hunngton Naonal Bank head the Christmas Party commiee, which starts
working on this party in September. They put a lot of volunteer
me into this event to make it grand! Frank Eilberg of Marlen
Jewelers assembles a fantasc holiday bar. Deneen Koehler of
Simply Deneen Photography will be set up to take a picture of
you and yours with Santa!
For $20 per person, you get all you can eat and drink. That’s a
bargain! You’ll be treated to a huge buffet donated by over 30
local restaurants. Proceeds will benefit the Rocky River Assistance Program and the Rocky River Chamber Internship Program. Le,overs will go to the Rocky River Fire Department and
the West Side Catholic Center.
Santa’s helpers, led by Rick Joyce, have been collecng contribuons of merchandise and gi, cerficates from area businesses and filling the “theme” gi, baskets for the raffle. Last year
the value of the gi, baskets ranged from $500—$1,000 each, so
you could walk away with some great stuff!
This is a great opportunity to
meet and mingle with fellow
Chamber members in a fun environment, so please share some
holiday cheer with us!

Workers’ Compensaon Change
Small Business Support Group
Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensaon (BWC) is switching
from retrospecve billing to prospecve billing starng in
2015. That means private and public employers will pay in
advance of receiving workers’ compensaon coverage. Prospecve billing will help BWC modernize its operaons and
provide beer service to employers.
Since May 2010, many local business people have found counsel, support, and encouragement at the Up & Running support
group for businesses with 1, 2, or 3 people. They've shared
interesng and educaonal group discussions about formaon/
dissoluon of partnerships, pros and cons of working from
home, goal-seQng, branding and markeng, hiring, insurance,
me management, and more.
The switch will occur July 1, 2015, for private employers and
Jan. 1, 2016, for public employers. Prospecve billing melines, frequently asked quesons and more resources about
prospecve billing are available at bwc.ohio.gov.
The Up & Running Group meets 8:00—9:00 a.m. on the third
Wednesday each month at Panera Bread. The next meeng is
December 17. It’s free and open to anyone with a business of
three or fewer people.
Rocky River Chamber members can take advantage of a
workers’ compensaon group rang program with Benefits1
Group, which is offered to all Chambers that are part of
NOACC (Northern Ohio Area Chambers of Commerce). Go to

Connecons Made
Successful connec/ons made between Chamber members
From Mae Williams of Men’s Cuts
I would like to toot out loud about the connecons that I
have made since becoming a Rocky River Chamber member.
A year ago I went to my first Chamber luncheon and Gail
Ligge was my ambassador. I don’t think there are enough
words to describe how thankful I am that I joined. Thank
you Gail for encouraging me!
When we make connecons, we may not need them
immediately, but as a new business start-up, we do not
know all the answers nor can we ancipate the help we’ll
need down the road. Some of the members I have worked
with, visited, hired and referred over the past year include:
Peter Toomey, Tak Sato, Penny Horton, Bill Ferry and Mike
Urban.
I have aended many Up & Running meengs at Panera (3rd
Wednesday of each month, 8-9a). I really get a lot out of
listening to others, sharing our problems and finding
soluons. I try to recruit others to aend Up and Running
and join the Chamber.
As the owner of a men's salon, I have a wide variety of male
customers and I tend to be a hub of informaon for them. It
has been helpful for me to refer other Chamber members
when quesons arise.
I am excited to be a volunteer on the Christmas Party
commiee, I have met even more members by doing the
work of this commiee. It has taken me a year to get my
feet wet both in my new business and learning about all that
the chamber offers.
If you’ve connected with other Chamber members, please submit your
list (even if it’s just a few) or success stories to
[email protected]

Hello! I have been a member of Chamber for four years. Fortunately, Gail Ligge introduced me to Liz Manning. I decided to join the RRCC because I thought it would be a great
way to introduce my company and what I do for a living to a
great group of people who would be acve in the community.
I worked for Novotny Furs for 16 ½ years and then opened
my own company, Sword Furs. I have been acve with
Rocky River since I started with Novotny Furs. I have been
helping the Rocky River Educaon Foundaon for over 10
years. This is why I decided to join the RRCC.
I grew up in Lakewood, graduated from Lakewood High and
then aended Muskingum College, John Carroll, and Cleveland State. I then took on the opportunity of working at Novotny Furs. I apprenced under two master furriers. Paul
was a master furrier who actually ran the Halle’s fur department many years ago. I do all of our repairs, restyles, alteraons on premises. I also reline fur, leather, and cloth garments. I clean and redye and repair leathers, too. I have a
full service fur store that also includes my very own cold
storage vault.
If you have any quesons don’t hesitate to ask me at our
next luncheon, call or visit my store (right across from Stein
Mart). Merry Christmas!

It’s funny how life takes you down roads and around corners
that you never thought you would go down. That is how my
story starts.
Hi everyone! My name is Deneen Koehler and I am the owner
and photographer of Simply Deneen Photography. I have
lived in the Cleveland area my enre life. I grew up in Fairview Park and lived in Rocky River a,er college. We moved
back to Fairview Park about 10 years ago. A,er high school I
went to Case Western Reserve University and graduated with
a BSN in Nursing. I began my career working at MetroHealth
Medical Center in the cardiac ICU and then on to the emergency department where I worked over 10 years. All the
while I was photographing part me all around the US for
family, friends and while traveling.
My passion for photography started when I was eight years
old but I never thought about making a career out of it. Almost three years ago I took my journey to the next level and
decided to go full me with my photography business. I
joined the Rocky River Chamber of Commerce in 2012 where
I met another member who offered me space to sublease in
Rocky River. The following year I opened up my own studio
in Fairview Park, in the former locaon of Jim Mayer Sporng
Goods. I have been the volunteer photographer for the
chamber for well over 24 events since I joined. You may have
seen me at the monthly chamber meengs, the golf oung or
the Christmas Party to name a few. I have met several people through the chamber who I have learned from and became friends with.
My life is comical at the very least with five, yes five kids.
Wya is 10, Macy is 8, Grayden is 6, Charloe is 3 and Gabriella is 7 months. We also have a golden retriever named Lady
and a Cat named Mickey. I have known my husband, Mark
since he was 14 as we met in high school marching band. In
addion to being a firefighter, Mark also owns his own business. We are the proud owners of a fire truck with C Town
Fire Truck Adventures, which I assist him with and am the
official photographer for any events with the fire truck.

“We enjoy participating in the Business Expo because it is a great place to network with business owners and residents of the Rocky
River area. 2014 was our sixth year at this great event and every year we enjoy it more and more. The early Gold Sponsorship was
a great business decision because of the exposure all through the year. Exhibiting brings awareness to the community that we are a
family owned and operated business serving Northeastern Ohio and surrounding communities for 29 years.”
