River Biz Workers’ Compensaon Change Small Business Support Group Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensaon (BWC) is switching from retrospecve billing to prospecve billing starng in 2015. That means private and public employers will pay in advance of receiving workers’ compensaon coverage. Prospecve billing will help BWC modernize its operaons and provide beer service to employers. Since May 2010, many local business people have found counsel, support, and encouragement at the Up & Running support group for businesses with 1, 2, or 3 people. They've shared interesng and educaonal group discussions about formaon/ dissoluon of partnerships, pros and cons of working from home, goal-seQng, branding and markeng, hiring, insurance, me management, and more. The switch will occur July 1, 2015, for private employers and Jan. 1, 2016, for public employers. Prospecve billing melines, frequently asked quesons and more resources about prospecve billing are available at bwc.ohio.gov. The Up & Running Group meets 8:00—9:00 a.m. on the third Wednesday each month at Panera Bread. The next meeng is December 17. It’s free and open to anyone with a business of three or fewer people. Rocky River Chamber members can take advantage of a workers’ compensaon group rang program with Benefits1 Group, which is offered to all Chambers that are part of NOACC (Northern Ohio Area Chambers of Commerce). If you have quesons about Up & Running, contact Peter Toomey of Toomey & Friends Adversing at 440-333-6698. Connecons Made Successful connec/ons made between Chamber members From Mae Williams of Men’s Cuts I would like to toot out loud about the connecons that I have made since becoming a Rocky River Chamber member. A year ago I went to my first Chamber luncheon and Gail Ligge was my ambassador. I don’t think there are enough words to describe how thankful I am that I joined. Thank you Gail for encouraging me! When we make connecons, we may not need them immediately, but as a new business start-up, we do not know all the answers nor can we ancipate the help we’ll need down the road. Some of the members I have worked with, visited, hired and referred over the past year include: Peter Toomey, Tak Sato, Penny Horton, Bill Ferry and Mike Urban. I have aended many Up & Running meengs at Panera (3rd Wednesday of each month, 8-9a). I really get a lot out of listening to others, sharing our problems and finding soluons. I try to recruit others to aend Up and Running and join the Chamber. As the owner of a men's salon, I have a wide variety of male customers and I tend to be a hub of informaon for them. It has been helpful for me to refer other Chamber members when quesons arise. I am excited to be a volunteer on the Christmas Party commiee, I have met even more members by doing the work of this commiee. It has taken me a year to get my feet wet both in my new business and learning about all that the chamber offers. If you’ve connected with other Chamber members, please submit your list (even if it’s just a few) or success stories to [email protected] December 2014 Health Insurance Benefit Small business owners: Did you know that you can save 1.4% off your Anthem health insurance premium as a Chamber member? Westlake, OH 44145 440-249-5001 www.SwordFurs.com Hello! I have been a member of Chamber for four years. Fortunately, Gail Ligge introduced me to Liz Manning. I decided to join the RRCC because I thought it would be a great way to introduce my company and what I do for a living to a great group of people who would be acve in the community. I worked for Novotny Furs for 16 ½ years and then opened my own company, Sword Furs. I have been acve with Rocky River since I started with Novotny Furs. I have been helping the Rocky River Educaon Foundaon for over 10 years. This is why I decided to join the RRCC. I grew up in Lakewood, graduated from Lakewood High and then aended Muskingum College, John Carroll, and Cleveland State. I then took on the opportunity of working at Novotny Furs. I apprenced under two master furriers. Paul was a master furrier who actually ran the Halle’s fur department many years ago. I do all of our repairs, restyles, alteraons on premises. I also reline fur, leather, and cloth garments. I clean and redye and repair leathers, too. I have a full service fur store that also includes my very own cold storage vault. If you have any quesons don’t hesitate to ask me at our next luncheon, call or visit my store (right across from Stein Mart). Merry Christmas!
