Faith Definition: Hebrews 11:1, 6 Greek word translated assurance or substance is hupostasis. The setting underneath. Could say, “that upon which you stand.” Believe 1) that He exists and 2) that He is a rewarder. Saving Faith: Romans 10: 9, 10; Ephesians 2: 8, 9; Acts 16: 31; John 3: 16, 17. This is when we trust in Jesus for the forgiveness of our sins and commit our lives to His lordship. Miracle Faith: Mark 11:22-26. This is “Faith in God” with absolute assurance that what you say will come to pass. Even that which is impossible, according to natural law. Enduring Faith: Hebrews 11:35-40. This faith is demonstrated in the life of Joseph, Job, Abraham and many others who had the promises of God and lived through adversity before receiving them or even not receiving them. Faith as a Gift: I Corinthians 12: 9. One of the nine gifts of the Spirit named in this chapter, faith here is given as a gift for whatever the need is, with the purpose of building up the body of Christ. Faith as Fruit: Galatians 5:22. Faith or faithfulness is shown to be a fruit of the Spirit. The abiding Presence of the Holy Spirit in someone in our process of growing in the Lord produces faith. It is a fruit of His Life abiding in us. Faith gained by hearing the Word: Romans 10:17. Hearing (listening with understanding) the Word of God germinates faith within us. Therefore it is very important to read, listen to and meditate upon what God says. This can happen through reading or listening to the Bible itself or from preaching, teaching or testimonies of what the Lord has done. Biographies of Christian leaders are therefore instrumental many times in creating faith. Sabbath Rest: Hebrews 4:3-11 The rest of God verse 3 is faith. Those who believe have entered into His rest. Verse 9 uses the Greek word Sabbatismos which is translated Sabbath rest in some translations. To fulfill the Sabbath of God and cease from our labors is to have faith. Exodus 31:13 In this verse the Lord declares we are to observe the Sabbath because it is His sign to us that He is the Lord who sanctifies us. In other words we rest and He is the One who sanctifies or makes holy. We cannot achieve it from our works but it is the Lord Who sanctifies. Faith is the way to please God, Obtain righteousness, receive miracles, persevere in hardship, receive grace. Faith is therefore the means by which we please God. It is our opportunity to trust Him and thus demonstrate our love and dependence upon Him while He uses it as His means to bless our lives because He wants to be merciful!!
