Megaplex-2100 Module 10/6-Channel Sync/Async Low Speed Data

Megaplex-2100 Module
LS-2A
10/6-Channel Sync/Async Low Speed Data
Module for X.50, X.58 or SDM Multiplexing
DESCRIPTION
• LS-2A modules can be grouped
• The LS-2A module provides
multiple low speed synchronous
or asynchronous data user (sub)
channels, supporting rates of 2.4,
4.8, 9.6, or 19.2 kbps. LS-2A
multiplexes the channels, so that
they can be placed in a single
standard 64-kbps timeslot of a T1
or E1 frame. These modules can
be used for both point-to-point
applications or for accessing
subrate public networks.

network applications
10 or 6 sync/async
sub-channels per module
Sub-channel data rates of
2.4, 4.8, 9.6, or 19.2 kbps
Compatible with X.50, X.58,
or SDM networks
V.24/RS-232 interface
Two X.50 or SDM modules
support up to 20 x 2.4 kbps
sub-channels in one timeslot
• Four X.58 modules support
up to 24 x 2.4 kbps
sub-channels in one timeslot
• Fits into any I/O slot of the
MP-2100/MP-2104 chassis
methods to multiplex the low
speed sub-channels into timeslots.
Module versions are available to
support either X.50, SDM or X.58
multiplexing standards.
LS-2A/X.50 and LS-2A/SDM
support up to ten V.24/RS-232
sub-channels per module.
LS-2A/X.58 modules support up to
six sub-channels.
• LS-2A/X.50 uses a multiplexing
technique compatible with ITU
recommendation X.50, Div. 3,
and ITU X.54. LS-2A/SDM uses a
multiplexing technique
compatible with AT&T
PUB 54075 (DS0-B format). Both
techniques define the
multiplexing frame, utilizing an
8-bit envelope structure. The
contents of one frame consists of
5, 10 or 20 bytes, allowing
envelope “bearer” rates of 25.6,
12.8, 6.4 and 3.2 kbps, for the
carried sub-channels (at 19.2, 9.6,
4.8 and 2.4 kbps, respectively).
• LS-2A/X.58 uses a multiplexing
technique compatible with ITU
recommendation X.58. An octet
structure is used for the
multiplexing frame. Multiplexing
efficiency is 90%, providing a
more efficient use of the
bandwidth than either X.50 or
SDM.

together to maximize the number
of sub-channels carried by a single
timeslot. Two LS-2A/X.50 or /SDM
modules operating together
support up to 20 x 2.4 kbps
sub-channels in one timeslot. Two
LS-2A/X.58 modules operating
together support up to
12 x 4.8 kbps sub-channels in one
timeslot; four modules support up
to 24 x 2.4 kbps sub-channels.
The LS-2A/2TS module uses a
multiplexing format similar to that
of the LS-2A/X.50, but can transmit
over two separate timeslots. This
version is designed to transmit up
to ten 9.6 kbps sub-channels using
a single module.
Async/sync conversion control and
async data bits are independently
switch-selectable per sub-channel
group (CH1, CH2–5 and CH6–10
for X.50 and SDM; CH1, CH2–3
and CH4–6 for X.58). Conversion
complies with ITU V.22.
Each sync LS-2A sub-channel can
be configured to operate in either
DCE, External-DCE, or DTE timing
modes. External-DCE mode is for
tail-end applications (provides Rx
clock, while receiving Tx clock
from the user equipment).
The control signals associated with
each sub-channel are supported
locally. RTS is returned locally as
CTS, DSR is continuously on, and
DCD is on when synchronized.
Sub-channel and system
parameters are configurable via
terminal interface, or via the
RADview management systems.
The sub-channels terminate on
two high-density connectors, with
five sub-channels per connector
(three for X.58). Special octopus
cables are available for connecting
five sub-channels to separate DTE
or DCE equipment. Alternatively,
a separate cross-cable can be used
for connecting a single channel to
a DCE.
