ST BENEDICT’S PREPARATORY SCHOOL SPORTS NEWSLETTER 2014
Sports Newsletter for the week 15 - 20 March 2014
Important sports announcements
 Swimming; Congratulations to our A swimming team who represented their School proudly and displayed good
manners and great sports etiquette. Well done to these boys for their outstanding performances and achievements
as a team for winning the Inter Primary “A” swimming gala which was held at Boksburg North swimming pool on
Monday 10 March 2014. Our A swimming team teamed up with Holy Rosary to win the overall section. Our
swimming boys competed extremely well as they came first in the boys section. Well done to Holy Rosary for also
winning the girls section. Participating boys Schools were; CBC Boksburg, Rynfield Primary, St Dunstan’s, Selcourt
Primary and Farrarmere Primary.
 Renovations to the Hockey Pavilion bathrooms will commence on Monday, 17 March. Unless we encounter any
unforeseen problems, work is scheduled to continue until the end of the first week in May. The area will be clearly
demarcated/enclosed and boys should not attempt to enter the bathrooms at all. The Hockey Pavilion kitchen, the
Ladies’ Day Room as well as the Preparatory Tuck shop will all still be in use. The current coaches’ facility in the
Bishop Edward Risi pool complex will be used as a ladies’ toilet during this period.
 Rowing; The under 13 boys Competed this year from January until the 9th of March. They had a great season
competing against other School’s Under 14 crews and they had raced their first South African Schools Rowing
Championships in March. This regatta is the pinnacle race for any school athlete and they competed against coastal
schools as well as schools from Gauteng. On the Saturday, the Oliveira and Murolo Double were only 1 second away
from making the A Final in the Double race. We had 21 Under 13 boys that competed at SA Champs in 4 Doubles, 1
Quad and 1 Octuple. They have all done exceptionally well and are contributing to the success of St Benedict’s
rowing. St Benedict’s won the Under 14 age group trophy. They will all have a break from rowing to concentrate
on their other sporting disciplines.
