Message from the Office
Welcome back to another school year at Caudle Park! In particular,
we would like to extend a special welcome to all of our new students
and their families! We are all looking forward to working with you
and your children, and to having another successful year.
We have a number of new staff members at the school this year
including myself. My name is Mr. MacNeil and I am excited to be the
new principal at Caudle Park!!! I bring to the position twenty-eight
years of experience. I have taught at the elementary, junior high and
high school levels in schools in Toronto, Barrie, and Halifax. Most
recently, I was the principal at Waverley Memorial School.
Also new to the school this year are Heather Daigle and Candis Marchant who are teaching grade
primary/one (Mrs. Marchant will be in the class for the first half of the year and Mrs. Daigle with
be here for the latter half). At the grade one level, we have Chantale Eastwood (who is teaching
40% of the day while Mrs. Carter does Early Literacy Support). Ashley Gold will be teaching
grade 2 each afternoon while Mrs. Wehbe is in the office. Additionally, we have a new
Educational Program Assistant, Shannon MacNeil, joining our team this year.

PTA NEWS
Hello Caudle Park Families!
The PTA at Caudle Park would like to extend an invitation for you to join us at our first meeting
of the year. It will be held Tuesday, September 13 at 6:30 pm in the staff room. Meetings will be
held the 2nd Tuesday of most months thereafter. Please, don't feel obligated to attend all
meetings, but we need the input of all parents to guide our school activities and fundraising
events in a direction best suited to our children. You all have a voice, and we would love to hear
from you!
Please feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have. Our email address is
[email protected].

Barbeque / Curriculum Night
Our annual Curriculum Night will be held on September 15th. The evening will
begin with a free hotdog barbeque at 5:00. Families will also be given water or
juice and popcorn. There will be popsicle treats for the children as well. This is
all thanks to our PTA!
Parents / guardians will assemble in the gym at 6:00 for new staff introductions and then are
invited to join the teachers in their classrooms at 6:15 for a discussion about curriculum. There
will be two half an hour curriculum sessions. An announcement will be made half way through
the evening to let you know to attend your other child’s class session for those of you with more
than one child in the school. See you on the 15th!
Electronic Devices
Game-boys, mp3 players, iPads and other related handheld electronic devices will not be
permitted on school grounds. These costly items are easily lost and we encourage physically
active play.
Volunteers
Volunteers are an important part of a positive and inclusive school climate. We welcome
parent/community volunteers in our school. The Halifax Regional School Board has a Student
Protection Policy in place in order to ensure that all schools provide a safe and secure learning
environment for all students. Prior to volunteering with the school, all volunteers must complete
a Criminal Record Check and Child Abuse Registry Search. These documents are valid for a
period of three years. Please contact the main office at 902-864-6864 if you have already
completed a Criminal Record Check and Child Abuse Registry Search and need clarification
regarding expiry dates. All new volunteers are requested to contact the main office for more
details.
Visitors
All visitors and volunteers are required to report to the main
office once they arrive at Caudle Park. If a visitor or volunteer
will be entering the building they will be asked to sign in and
obtain an access badge before entering any part of the school.
There are no exceptions to this protocol. If you are picking up
students before the end of the school day, please sign them out
in the book located in the main office. Someone in the office
will be glad to assist you with this when you arrive.
PowerSchool Student-Parent Portal –
Parents of students in grade primary will be given usernames and passwords for Power School
later this month. If you have lost, or have not received, your username and password for the
Parent Portal in PowerSchool, please contact the office and we will provide you with this
information. Parents please be aware that you may be asked to reset your usernames and
passwords. You can access the Parent Portal at: https://sishrsb.ednet.ns.ca/public/home.html
Head Lice
As we know head lice can appear in schools and other public places from time to time. The link
below is provided by the Department of Public Health as a resource to support families with head
lice. If you suspect that your son/daughter has head lice please contact the school.

School Advisory Council (SAC)
The School Advisory Council is a legally recognized body set out by the Department of
Education. The Council is committed to supporting the implementation of the School
Improvement Plan and to assisting and advising the principal and staff on various issues. The
SAC meets on a regular basis. If you would like more information, please contact Mr. MacNeil
at [email protected]. The first SAC meeting of the 2016-2017 school year will be held on
Monday, October 3, 2016 at 6:00pm.
Life Threatening Allergies
The school asks for the consideration of all parents in continuing to be Nut / Scent Aware. A
number of our students have strong anaphylactic, life threatening allergies to peanuts and tree
nuts. We ask that students not come to school with these products. We appreciate your support as
it enables us to provide a safe environment for all our students and staff.
Scent Aware
Many children and adults have strong reactions to the heavy scents in perfumes, deodorants, hair
sprays, latex products and other cosmetic products. Please do not wear scented products in and
around the school
Student Drop Off and Pick Up
When dropping off or picking up your child, please refrain from driving in the school parking lot
during arrival times (8:10-8:35) and dismissal times (2:00-2:50). Students use the school parking
lot as an access route to the school playground area in the morning and access to McGee Drive in
the afternoon. Also, please do not park near the driveway area as this is where our buses load and
unload students.
Dogs on the School Grounds
For the safety and comfort of all students and staff, effective immediately we are asking
parents/guardians not to bring their dogs on school property. Your cooperation is greatly
appreciated.
Safe Arrival
Safe Arrival is a program run by our Home and School. Volunteers will start making
calls at about 8:45 AM. The program will be starting in September. Forms for the safe
arrival program have already been sent home. Attendance will be taken in the morning
at 8:30am and again at 12:30pm. Students arriving after these times MUST report to
the main office to be signed in by their parents/guardians prior to entering class.
Parents taking children out of school during the day for appointments etc. are asked to
do two things: write a note to the teacher in advance, and report to the main office to request and
sign out their child. The safe arrival number is 902-864-6870.
After School Arrangements
Unless we are notified in writing in advance, the school will see that your child will go home as
per their regular arrangements. Children often try to make their own after school arrangements
during the day but the only way that we can ensure their safe departure is if the parents confirm
the arrangements with a note.
Breakfast / Canteen / Hot Lunch
We will be starting our breakfast program in the coming weeks. A grab’n’go breakfast option
will be available for students first thing in morning. Our school canteen will also begin in the
coming weeks. Healthy items will on sale for 50 cents or a dollar. Students who are interested in
this option will be given an opportunity to purchase items at the beginning of recess. We will be
continuing with nutritious lunch options for students. We will be sending home menus in late
September with the options available.
Milk Program
The milk program for the 2016-2017 school year will begin in October. Forms will be sent home
later in the month with payment options.
