Autumn 2014 WELCOME TO CLASS1 The children have se led well into school life and have been enjoying a range of prac cal ac vi es both indoors and outside. As a team we look forward to working closely with all of the families in class 1. If you have any ques ons or concerns regarding your child please do not hesitate to contact us. Autumn Topics This term we will be focusing on the topics of Myself and Autumn. If you find any pictures or artefacts rela ng to these we would be very grateful if you would send them into class. Reading During this term we are reading and retelling lots of the children's favourite stories and discussing the characters from the books. Year 1 reading books will be changed when appropriate and Recep on children will be given a picture reading book once they have started to learn their sounds. Number Work This term Recep on will be focusing on correctly forming their numbers to 10 to begin with. Y1 will be wri ng and working with numbers to at least 20. Perhaps you could con nue this number forma on at home with your child. Recep on will be playing different number games and using lots of different objects i.e. pasta, bu ons and counters to count and order numbers to at least 10. Year 1 will be using a number line/ number square to add and subtract with numbers to 20. No ces. • • • Please remember to send £1 snack money every Monday. PE kits are to remain in school and will be sent home regularly to be washed. Please label all of your child's clothes/ shoes clearly. Please ensure your child has an outdoor coat with them every day as we will be outdoors regularly. Wri ng / Phonics Recep on pupils are wri ng their names using lots of different materials and we are paying par cular a en on to the correct forma on of each le er. Please help your child to con nue this at home. Children will begin to learn their Jolly Phonics sounds once they have se led into class. Y1 are wri ng their full names and we are encouraging them to use their sounds to spell simple words and write sentences independently. Year 1 will be revisi ng their Jolly Phonics sounds to refresh their memories and then they will be moving on to learn new le er pa erns and sounds. Recep on will be inves ga ng lots of sound pa erns and describing what they can hear.
