use of capitalization in proper adjectives in a sentence. Here is
your chance to help him or her practice this important skill.
In this PAL Packet you will find a short activity for you and your
son or daughter to do. Please do the activity and The Back Page

CAPITALIZING PROPER ADJECTIVES
Parent Pointer —
When reading and writing, it is important to be able to identify the
different parts of speech that a sentence may contain. One of those
parts of speech is an adjective. Adjectives help describe a noun in a
sentence. Sometimes adjectives can be proper names. These
adjectives are called proper adjectives. Using a capitalized proper
noun as an adjective forms a proper adjective. These proper
adjectives help describe the noun by telling “who” or “what kind.”
Reading In the Home, On the Go, and For the Fun of It —
DIRECTIONS: With your parent or partner, read and discuss the
information about proper adjectives on the Using Proper Adjectives
Correctly page. Then, follow the directions to read and correct the
sentences on the Capitalizing Proper Adjectives page.
Talk About It —
After you have finished the activity, turn to The Back Page to show
what you know.
Now go have some fun with the activity! (

Using Proper Adjectives Correctly
A proper adjective is formed by using a capitalized proper noun as an
adjective. Proper adjectives should always be capitalized.
Example: The Main Street restaurant has the best French
fries in the city.
(Main Street functions as a proper adjective in the
sentence, describing the noun restaurant; and French
functions as a proper adjective in the sentence, describing
the noun fries.)
