Ready for the Future with a New High-bay Warehouse
Mennekes invests 3 million euros in the factory location Neudorf
Kirchhundem/Neudorf, Germany. On September 19th, the new Technoplast high-bay
warehouse in Neudorf was officially brought into service. For this event, the company of
the Mennekes Group invited political and business representatives as well as clients,
suppliers, employees, and neighbours.
Following the formal welcome issued to the guests by Managing Directors Paulinus Pauly
and Volker Lazzaro, the speakers acknowledged Mennekes’ commitment in the region.
The Minister of Economy in the German State of Saxony, Sven Morlok, the CDU party’s
State Parliamentary Group Chairman Steffen Flath, the head of the district authority Frank
Vogel and Mayor Udo Ott agreed in their speeches that Technoplast in Neudorf is
considered a positive example of economic development in the region and a major
employer. Today, the company has 122 employees, six of whom are in vocational training
for a variety of professions.
Following the speeches by the political representatives, Walter Mennekes addressed the
guests. He praised the positive partnership with the regional authorities in the planning
and implementation of the new high-bay warehouse. He showed particular appreciation
for the employees, some of whom have been with the company for many years, and who
identify well with ‘their’ company.
Before the new high-bay warehouse was brought into service, partners Walter and
Christopher Mennekes announced that Technoplast GmbH would be formally renamed to
Mennekes Elektrotechnik Sachsen GmbH. “There are two things that we aim to
communicate with the renaming. The first is to make clear that the company is a fully-

valued member of the Mennekes Group. The other is to state our commitment to our
presence here in Saxony, in Neudorf,” explains Christopher Mennekes the motives
behind the renaming. “Even though Mennekes is a company that operates internationally,
our roots are in Germany and we appreciate the German virtues regarding quality and
reliability. This is why we will continue to invest in our locations in Germany in the future.
Investments are to be made in expanding the administrative division and in modernizing
the machinery in Neudorf. Only by constantly investing in our facilities we can secure
existing jobs and create new ones.” says Christopher Mennekes.
Walter Mennekes then took the guests of honour, which alongside the speakers also
included Günter Baumann (member of the Bundestag for the CDU party) and Matthias
Lisske, Managing Director of Wirtschaftsförderung Erzgebirge GmbH, on a personal tour
through the picking area of the new high-bay warehouse. It was brought into operation
with a symbolic push of a button, and as if by magic, the warehouse vehicle delivered
Mennekes-Bitboxes that were distributed to the guests.
During the subsequent tour of the warehouse, the guests had the opportunity to form their
own image of the exemplary facility in Neudorf. In addition to its core business in industrial
plugs and sockets, Mennekes is also a leading supplier of charging systems for electric
mobility. Enclosures for the charging columns are one of the articles produced in Neudorf,
and of course, Mennekes’ fleet of vehicles also includes electric vehicles.
A special attraction provides the guests not only with the opportunity to admire the electric
mopeds and cars, but also to experience them first hand and see the performance of the
electric motors for themselves. The dynamics of the sporty Tesla made an impression in
particular.

Major Investments in the Neudorf Facility
Over the last four years, Mennekes has invested over eight million euros in Neudorf, with
three million euros alone going to the construction of the new high-bay warehouse, which
commenced in June 2011 and was completed on schedule in August 2012. It was planned
jointly with the Fraunhofer Institute. The warehouse is divided into a pallet and small parts
warehouse. The pallet warehouse offers more than 800 storage spots for pallets or pallet
cages, which are inserted and removed by an automated shelving unit. There is space for
over 10,000 plastic containers in the small parts warehouse, in which storing and removal
is also handled automatically. The warehouse management software is connected by
means of a corresponding module directly to the SAP company information system.
The set picking system for AMAXX® receptacle combinations is linked directly to the highbay warehouse. The production facilities for PowerTOP® plugs and sockets are also
supplied fully automatically on the basis of a ‘goods-to-man’ picking system.
Particular attention was paid to fire protection. In order to be equipped for serious
situations, a reservoir for 1200 m³ of firefighting water was built under the high-bay
warehouse, and this supplies the sprinkler system.
Programmed for Growth
It was back in 1991 that Mennekes began its work in Neudorf, Saxony. Since 1995,
Technoplast has been fully owned by the Mennekes Group.
In addition to the production of plastic molded components, stainless steel enclosures for
both receptacle combinations and charging stations are also manufactured in Neudorf.
The company also has assembly facilities. Mennekes Elektrotechnik Sachsen not only
produces the Mennekes Groups’ own supplies – it also manufactures for other companies.
