PRINCIPAL’S CORNER May 8, 2017 WEEKLY MESSENGER Last week was a great week. Why? Last week we showed on four levels why LCS is a special school. First of all, LCS is a special place on a student level. The student’s talents were displayed in a variety of ways. Art hung throughout the hallways and around the gym. Amazing art! Students also displayed their gifts of art, mime, singing, poetry, French, and rhythm during the Celebration of Learning and GrandParents’ Day program. Wow, we have gifted students! Secondly, it showed on a staff level. As we prepared for the week, we worked together to pick art and staying longer after school to display it around the school. We were united in the task and supported each other. It also showed up as the dedication and creativity of the teachers shone through the work of the students. Only through careful planning, excellent teaching and creative ideas does that level of art get produced. And lastly, on GrandParents Day when two teachers were too sick to make it to school (and they would have come to school if they possibly could have), the other staff assumed more responsibilities, helped out where they could, and ensured the day ran smoothly. I stood in awe at the support the teachers had for one another. Thirdly, LCS is a special place because of our supportive parent community. Parents came out on Tuesday evening to celebrate the art of their children. As parents toured and appreciated the works, they also offered words of encouragement to the students and the teachers. It may sound simple and obvious, but it is also very much appreciated. On Thursday, the kitchen was also filled with parents willing to serve the grandparents. Thanks! And lastly, we are blessed by our grandparent and broader supportive community. On Thursday, the gym was packed – more than we planned for. There were people everywhere and a constant buzz of conversation. I noticed it was a happy place – grandparents glad to see other grandparents and proud to be with their grandchildren. People laughing and smiling and contributing to a positive atmosphere. That attitude is contagious and it was a good day amongst the days of rain. LCS is a special school and we do not take that for granted. I can only speak for myself but I consider myself blessed for working at LCS. I thank God continuously for allowing me to be a part of this school and I pray that God will continue to bless LCS with great students, excellent teachers, supportive parents and wonderful grandparents. SCHOOL NEWS Prayer Request: We ask that, as a school community, we uphold Georgia Thalen in prayers. Georgia had a very difficult week last week and continues to struggle. Her heart rate is much higher than it should be and doctors cannot reduce it. Pray for Jim and Christy as they try to understand this trial in their lives and encourage and support Georgia. Pray for Cassidy, Andrew, Nathan, Brooke, and James as they miss their sister. We pray that God will work a miracle, that Georgia will be cured beyond medical reason, and that the Thalen family may be reunited at home. Supporting Our School Family: During difficult times, our Christian brothers and sisters support one another through prayer and doing the little things as signs of love, support and help for others. The meal sign-up site for Jim & Christie Thalen will continue for the next several months as they accompany Georgia during her lengthy stay in the hospital. Meals are a wonderful way for us to care for them and their children. Here is the site address: http://www.takethemameal.com/meals.php?t=ONBB9387. Tuition Statements: By now you should have received a tuition statement by email. Please contact Amanda VanderMeer (bookkeeper) if you did not receive your statement or if you have any questions regarding your statement. Please contact the school office as soon as possible if you are able to help. Given that many parents will be at LCS either volunteering or encouraging the students, we will cancel the afternoon buses. If this is a difficulty for you, please call the school and maybe we can help coordinate carpooling for your children. Dismissal that afternoon will be 2pm. A pizza order form was sent home for non-LCS students and parents who wish to pre-order pizza for Track & Field. Please return the form or email the school office by May 12 so that enough pizza can be ordered!
