~What’s Happening in Room 123?~ Miss Jordan’s Classroom Newsletter Reading This week we will continue working on our monthly reading skill. We will examine text organization and features, such as headings and captions, as well as pulling out the main idea of the article. We will explore story structure elements Writing/Grammar Writing~ In writing we will continue magnifying. The students magnify in order to make their writing more focused. Grammar~ We will identify the subject and predicate in simple and compound sentences. as we read the story New York’s Word Work Bravest. Students will learn to identify main idea and details of fiction and nonfiction text. Tuesday (Day 6) will be our first word work assessment on the initial hard g, hard c, soft g, and soft c pattern words. On Wednesday (Day 1) we will begin working with words that follow the pattern of final soft g and c. Math This week in math we will be wrapping up Unit 1. On Monday, the students will review square numbers as well as find the square root of a number. On Tuesday, the students will represent numbers as products of factors (factor strings) and as products of prime numbers (prime factorization). Wednesday we will have a BIG review, and then Thursday will be our Unit 1 assessment. Social Studies/Science This Week’s Homework In social studies, we will review everything Monday~ Word Work Day 5 & test tomorrow; SL 1.8; Text organization practice sheet Tuesday~ SL 1.9 Wednesday~ Word Work Day 1; Math review sheet Thursday~ Word Work Day 2 Friday~ Word Work Day 3 *Word work test on Tuesday. *Math test on Thursday. *Social studies test on Thursday. that we have learned so far in Chapter 1. We will play a review game using the Quizdom to test our skills before the test! The Chapter 1 test will be on Thursday. Students will begin bringing home materials to study on Tuesday. We will be sending items to a unit deployed in Afghanistan.
