This usually affects my game tremendously, and as hard as I try to control my nerves, nothing seems to work. What can I do to help calm myself down during a match? Answer: Rely on the rituals you develop in practice. For example, take a deep breath, bounce the ball twice, and then cock your racquet before serving. Do it every time that you serve. Be sure to slow down when you are feeling anxious. Most players tend to rush when they are nervous, so do the opposite. Try to breath out when you hit the ball. This exhale will relax your muscles. Players often hold their breath under pressure and this will prevent that from occurring. Mostly, rely on positive self-talk. Stay focused on the present-tense, with little concern over what has happened or what will happen. Instead, concentrate on what you need to do to win the very next point. This is easier written than done, but with practice you will become more comfortable. Good luck, and be assured that every player gets nervous out on the court. If ball machine usage is approved during prime hours, it is for a 30-minute increment and the user will lose the court after that 30 minute increment if a singles or doubles group arrives during that time and all other courts are occupied. If no other groups show up for the court during that time, the player may use the ball machine for a 2nd 30 minute increment if desired.* *This only applies to individual use. If two players request the ball machine, they are subject to the regular court reservation policy as singles players. 10 by Darren Howey; C.S.C.S., Director of Fitness WELLNESS LECTURE IN SEPTEMBER Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Lecture Tuesday, September 13th at 6pm Come find out about Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy and how it may enhance your health. Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) is the inhalation of oxygen inside a hyperbaric chamber that is pressurized to greater than 1 atmosphere. Oxygen is vital to our life. Without it, our bodies cannot function. Physically, as a person ages, basic stress on the body produces a constant inflammatory response that eventually wears out the joints, muscles, vital organs, and even brain cells. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy’s anti-inflammatory properties help alleviate the inflammation that wears out the body. This type of therapy is one of the most natural and uses no drugs and may address various health issues without surgery. The basic principle of HBOT is to dissolve oxygen into the blood’s plasma, joint fluid, cerebral fluid, lymph fluid and other tissues throughout the body. This increase of oxygen helps the entire body function more efficiently and normally. Some of the benefits of hyperbaric oxygen include: increased energy, improved circulation, and accelerated healing from injury or surgery. HBOT may also calms the nervous system and improves memory. Clinical studies have shown successful results for helping with inflammation, Stroke, Chronic Fatigue, Lyme Disease, Autism, sports injuries, general anti-aging, and more. This lecture is presented by Silvana Bilicska, Founder of Obispo Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Clinic. The clinic can be reached at 805-440-9856 or get more information by visiting www.obispohyberbaric.com RUN THE COURSE ~ A FAMILY FUN RUN! Our 3rd annual Run/Walk the Course is coming up fast!
