When Matt Gannon of Markforged began looking for a solution he
had never heard of Exact. And operating as a venture backed
startup, Markforged needed an ERP solution that they could move
forward with quickly without a daunting implementation. One day,
a QuickBooks expert suggested Exact for Manufacturing and the
team couldn’t be happier.

Business Challenges
Startups have a variety of challenges,
especially finding a balance between
efficiency and cost. Prior to implementing
Exact Markforged had no system to handle
their processes. “When we received an order
we were converting it into a packing slip
in excel, than transferring over for order
tracking onto a google sheet – two manual
processes,” said Matt, “and then, after
shipping we would have to manually copy
and paste into an invoice.” The process was
daunting and inefficient, costing the company
money and impeding accuracy daily.
Additionally, Markforged lacked visibility
into inventory. “We were manually doing
inventory month-to-month. There was no
way to get a quick insight into what we had
in stock,” said Matt. The Markforged team
needed one system to monitor inventory
and streamline their operations.
The Decision
When the final decision time came, cloud
was a must; “we are a cloud business. As
a small business, we didn’t want servers
or high overheads. We needed a cloud
solution that we could implement without
being slowed down from an effort or
cost standpoint,” said Matt. Ultimately
Markforged chose Exact for Manufacturing
as their ERP solution because of cost,
functionality, and ease of implementation.

Now, employees can go into the system
and see how much of a material is in
stock. Having all that data, and a quick
snapshot into monitoring the business,
has been essential. “Exact has saved us
valuable time compared to our previous
manual process. We no longer have to
populate a spreadsheet with details of
every transaction – we can now run reports
within Exact to retrieve the information.”
Additionally, Markforged pushes invoice
information from Exact to QuickBooks,
which populates the information on
the invoice eliminating another manual
process. This process saves valuable time
as the process of invoicing went from 15
to 20 minutes down to 3 to 5 minutes “We
probably have 150-200 invoices per month
so this is a lot of time savings!”
Markforged also has an integration
with WooCommerce for their webstore.
Integrating their manufacturing with
their commerce solution has saved time
especially when creating packing slips.
“There are additional apps we want to
explore, with so many options I haven’t had
a chance to choose one!”
Conclusion
Overall Markforged is happy with Exact for
Manufacturing. As a small business, they
can’t afford being slowed down by an out
of date solution or bogged down with
server upkeep and IT headaches. Matt
said, “the amount of manual processes
avoided so far has been outstanding. We
