String Orchestra Share Their Talents with
Students at North Shore Youth Center!
On February 16, 2016, the String Orchestra performed at North Shore
Youth Center. They played for approximately 100 students spending
the day at the youth center for the teacher workday. The GMYS String
Orchestra and their conductor Mr. Keenan Ellis performed the first
movement of the Capriol Suite by Peter Warlock as well as a medley of
Mozart’s most popular works. Highlights of the performance included
the string orchestra quartet playing the Star Spangled Banner by John
Stafford Smith. The quartet members were Sierra Su (violin 1), Julietta
Garcia (violin 2), Samantha Su (viola), and Rylee Lockwood (cello).
Students from the North Shore Youth Center were able to guest conduct
the over 60 piece ensemble as well as try out string instruments for the
very first time. We are so grateful that our students were
able
to share their talents with the students at Northshore
Youth Center. It was an amazing
experience for all involved.

Keenan Ellis
String Orchestra Conductor
The North Shore performance was remarkable.
The Strings Orchestra played beautifully, and the
students from North Shore were very excited about the
performance. Almost all of the students volunteered
to take turns conducting the orchestra. Without a
doubt, the String Orchestra’s performance inspired
students to take music classes, and learn how to
play a musical instrument.

Special thanks to Mr. Richard Fleischman and New World School of the Arts for providing this
wonderful opportunity for our students.
“What an Experience! Being with masters, such as, Daniel Andai, Richard Fleischman, Athalie
Vaval, and Alexandre Rodriquez, and training, then performing with some really, incredibly
talented musicians was amazing.” Eva Gonzalez, Concert Orchestra
“Viola day at the New World school of Arts was
a great opportunity for Samantha to meet other
viola students and professionals. She participated
in workshops, lectures and observed other students
playing in Masterclasses and mini lessons. At the end
of the day, 40 violists performed in a concert with
repertoire of viola literature. It was an amazing
experience and she had lot of fun. As a musician
myself, I truly appreciate this rare opportunity for
viola students to learn about all things VIOLA.” Daisy
