Christmas Tree Service
Thank you to everyone who contributed presents to
the Christmas Tree Service which was held in school
this morning. We had an enormous number of
presents brought in, which have now been taken by
Derby Lions to be given to Barnado’s for less
fortunate children this Christmas.
All classes delivered lovely readings, and carols
and Christmas songs were sung, including one in
Spanish, taught to the children by Mrs Massey!
Mrs Flint
Following her maternity leave, Mrs Flint will be returning to school in January to teach 3FL
four days a week, from Tuesday to Friday. Miss Latham will continue to teach 3FL each
Monday. Miss Latham will also be teaching RE to Years 4, 5 and 6, and supporting 3FT
each Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoon.
Mrs Irving
We said a fond farewell today to Mrs Irving, who has retired after more than 27 years at
Cavendish Close Junior School. Mrs Irving has seen many changes over the years since
September 1987 – when she started we did not have a National Curriculum, SATs, league
tables or Ofsted. Very different times indeed!
I know that many of our children will have family members who were taught by Mrs Irving
and will want to wish her well in her retirement.
Karate and Dance Clubs next term
We have two clubs at the moment which are run by outside providers, ie Karate each
Tuesday after school, and Dance each Wednesday after school. Mr Bowen would like to
remind parents of children who go to these clubs that they need to fill in a new
registration form for next term and send in the appropriate payment.
All children who have been attending the two clubs have been given letters to bring home.
These should be returned to school as soon as possible. Letters have also been given out to
other children who expressed an interest in starting either Karate or Dance – these letters
should also be returned as soon as possible so that the respective providers can confirm
that they have space for new starters.
Both clubs will start in the first week back in January.
Christmas Jumper Day
As previously advertised, tomorrow is Christmas Jumper Day when we will be raising money
for Save the Children. If children choose to wear a festive jumper – whether it is a specific
‘Christmas jumper’ bought in a shop, or perhaps an ordinary jumper which has been
adapted/accessorised to make it ‘Christmassy’ – we are asking them to bring in a £1
donation to Save the Children. Children wearing special jumpers can wear other nonuniform, ie jeans, trainers etc, if they wish.
Children who do not wear a special jumper should wear school uniform as normal.
New building
I can happily confirm that planning permission for our new school has now been given. Work
is due to start on site by the end of February, and we have been given a provisional new
school opening date of January 2016.
Tulip planting
Many thanks to Councillor Sarah Bolton and the Chaddesden Ward Neighbourhood Board
who have donated 100 tulip bulbs to our school. A team of young gardeners have been out
in the school grounds planting the bulbs this week. Keep your eye peeled in the Spring and
see if you can spot where they were planted!
Best wishes for Christmas to
all the children at
Cavendish Close Junior
School and to their families.
See you all again on
Monday January 5th 2015!
