Literal Equations Project

Literal Equations Project
You have some cousins from London that are going to come visit you for the summer. You are talking to them on the phone, and you
tell them that when they come to visit they should expect temperatures of over 100 degrees. When you say that, your cousins begin
to second guess their trip - because to them, 100 degrees would literally kill them.
After a short discussion, you realize that they are used to reading temperatures in degrees Celsius, not Fahrenheit. So, you decide to
make the average temperatures easy for them to understand by converting the temperatures from Fahrenheit to Celsius. You do
9
some internet research, and you find that the formula for converting Fahrenheit to Celsius is C +32 = F.
5
Your task is as follows:
A) Solve the literal equation above for Celsius. Show all steps and include a picture of the math of your steps in your final
product.
B) What temperatures should your cousin expect? Use Google Spreadsheets to convert the Fahrenheit temperatures to
Celcius.
C) Write a message to your cousin Summarize your findings using complete sentences. What is the range of temperatures
(in Celsius) that your cousins should expect?
D) Put parts A, B, C, into a Google Spreadsheet. Be sure to make project well organized and easy to read.
Advice & Tips

Part B: I know you are new to Google Spreadsheet (Excel). Use this video to help you get started, but feel free to come by
for tutorials if they don’t help you.
