Advanced Placement US History- Mr. Owens
Summer Assignment 2009
Due Wednesday September 2nd, 2009 (1st Day of School)
Greetings. In order to keep pace with the AP exam date, students must begin the reading
for this class over the summer.
You must first check out a copy of the textbook: American History, A Survey, from
the Culver City High School Library in the beginning of summer, (starting Monday June
30th). The following assignment is due September 2nd and will go toward your 1st
semester grade. Failure to complete the following assignment will show that you are
unprepared for the rigors of AP and will be grounds for dropping you from the
class. Do not wait until the week before school to begin. This is an individual
assignment, not a group assignment. There will be an exam on this material during the
first two weeks of school. If you have any questions feel free to contact me at:
[email protected].
Your Assignment: (150 Total Points) You must complete Parts I, II, III & IV
All work must be handwritten in blue or black ink pen.
I. Read Chapters 1, 2 & 3 of the text American History A Survey by Alan Brinkley.
Read the chapters carefully – I recommend reading the entire chapter before answering
the questions and defining the Key Terms. You will use information from Chapters 1-3
to complete Parts II & III.
II. Reading Questions (50 points): Answer the following questions in your own
words – do not just copy the book (responses will require at least a brief paragraph
each) and be prepared to discuss your responses during the first week of class in
September. You do not need to re-write the questions, but number the responses
